I got my Highball ride in while I was there. Enjoy them texas backroads....

Don't forget to check out the sales behind the yellow tape upstairs --- some things 70% off, at least when I was there.

Excellent! I'm going to go try riding a Vision. I really want to compare the noise levels. Compared to my old Kingpin, My new 2011 Vision sounds like my old 1963 Buick when I let the oil get WAY to low.

I think you'll find it the same. The characteristics of the fairing creates a pocket that you'll hear the noise more, at least that is what I believe. What I'm saying is, the Vision doesn't make more noise, you just hear more noise. I roll with the radio on 25, or I tune out the noise, realizing I'm rippin' down the highway at 70 mph in the open... it ain't no Lexus.

Yeah, I know it channels noise but there is a certain part of the noise that just doesn't sound right.

Anyway, aside from the peculiar noise I hear only under certain conditions, I'm wondering if the way the two sides of the tank form a sort of reflective tunnel ads to the perceived noise level. I have an idea of coating the surface with some sort of sound absorbant material to see if that cuts it down some. Maybe some foam rubber sheet or something along that line. I have an old foam camping mattress that I might experiment with.

And although it's not a Lexus, one could consider it the Lexus, Cadilac, or MB of the motorcycle world. As such, I'm sure that more could be done at the engineering level to correct or reduce the number 1 complaint I hear about the Vision. Pointing out an area that could use some improvement doesn't condemn the bike.

oh, understand. I've not looked close at one lately, but I recall that the GoldWing had some sort of barrier, rubber, or something like that, that covered the tunnel but allowed free movement of the handle bars. I've thought about that myself a number of times.

I'm thinking though, is that I tune out that noise easily since I'm nearly deaf in that range. I grew up around heavy equipment without hearing protection. Of course I should use hearing protection before I go completely deaf, as I kept reminding myself but don't do anything about it.

Let us know how things work out.

We should use all use hearing protection. On any ride longer then 10 miles I put in the plugs. Plus the music sounds better without the wind noise.

20+ years as an infantryman, excessively loud guitar playing, motorcycles, concerts, etc., have taken their toll on my hearing as well. I should wear ear protection, but I rarely do. Guess I'm a dummy for not.

Anyway....The Gold Wing is a much quieter bike and I've never really given much thought as to why. I'll look at one tomorrow when I go for the test ride. Maybe get some ideas.

I loved the sound of my Kingpin. The square cut gears whirring and whining sounded great to me. No other bike sounds like it. I still hear that aspect on my Vision, but it's overpowered by what sounds like an old valve train that's starving for oil. I don't know what it sounds like to someone when I'm riding by them, and I really don't care. I just want to see if I can reduce some of that whackety whakety whakety noise that probably only I really hear.

I'll post what I find out about the GW, and later what I do about my little pet peeve!

Sorry no pictures or video. It was all work for me and no play. I was the lead bike in all but the first ride today.

Met Magic and LonestarMedic at the dealership and enjoyed talking to them as always.

I talked to the dealership sales people and it looks like they really want to support a local group of Victory riders. I will see what I can do to make that happen.

The new bikes were a blast. I will write more on them later.
