Subject: Vision Ride at Sturgis

Junkman provided a nice long ride on the Vision this year at the Sturgis demo site. We must have been gone a good 30-40 minutes, but I didn't look at my watch as I was having too much fun.

So, here are my thoughts:
1. Yup, the looks are radical. I like them. Looks big.
2. Handling in the parking lot, doing figure 8's - about 100 x better than my 02 TC.
3. I didn't spend much time on the radio, as that isn't really my interest.
4. I spent time figuring out how to adjust the windshield and the cruise control
5. Windshield is very nice, low for slow speeds, high to keep buffeting near zero
6. Cruise control was fantastic
7. I had heard people complain about the heat, so I adjusted the side flaps in and out to see how the heat affected me. With the flaps turned all the way in (as far as they would go) pushed the heat right past me. No heat build up, unless I directed the air outward.
8. Seat was very comfortable, although I need a backrest on any bike.
9. Tracking without hands on bars was very straight.
10. Acceleration was very good. We turned onto a road, and I waited at the stop sign for two bikes to go by. I got in behind them, and brought the bike to 110 as I passed and caught up quickly to the group. It had plenty more to go. My TC maxes out around 110...
11. Trunk space looks fine to me. The side bags seem adequate and will hold a fair amount of stuff.
12. Rear view mirrors are positioned to see my fingers. Nice if I need to look to see if they are still attached. Since I'm 6-4, I was easily able to see over my hands to the rear.
13. Breaking was good...Much like the TC with the dual fronts.
14. The bike handled well, turns were much easier than the TC, as I didn't have to push my way through.
15. Will I buy one? Not now. I promised the little lady that I would put 100,000 miles on the TC (if not more) before I add another bike to the garage. So, even as appealing as this Vision is, my word must be kept. I'm thinking in three years the Vision and whatever bike replaces the TC might be looking pretty good. 66,500 now, so at 15,000 per year I'll be really close.
