I have six bikes. I love my vision, but this chirping BS is crazy! I took it to the dealer and they adjusted the belt and it was gone for two months. Then it came back with a vengeance. The dealer told me to get belt dressing...now why do I to spray belt dressing on a $25,000 bike every time before I ride. And then when I leave the location I have to do it again in front of all my Harley buddies. Ya that's what I want to do.

If any help or suggestions....that would be great. I want a permanent solution. Or I'm gonna buy a street glide...

I would love to hear a chirping Vision. Mine never chirped, but it did growl, until I used the newer measurement. I've never gotten into the level detail in making sure it is perfectly straight, or the belt rides exactly in the middle of the pulley. I do however check the tenstion, which is very loose compared to other bikes. Once I did the tension right according to the specs, no more growling. I guess my Vision has always been more of a tiger, than those with the canaries...sound just too tweet for me...

IMHO - Belt dressing sucks.
I had chirping on my '09 about 6 months ago, so using procedures I found on this forum I did the belt adjustment myself. Didn't get it centered, but was enough to get rid of the chirp. Kind of started again a few weeks ago with the real cold weather, but a good belt cleaning took care of it, which I do every time I change the oil.
Have also heard '08s had an issue that required belt and pulley to be replaced. Maybe early '09s had the same issue?

Had the same problem with my '09. Adjustments no help, warranty replaced the rear pulley and was gone for a month and finally warranty replaced both pulleys plus the belt and 6 months later no chirping. Lots of trips to the dealer but in the end it's fixed.

I just went through the same thing on my '11. Adjustments made no difference and belt dressing lasted about 1000 miles. The dealer replaced the rear pulley and its gone for now but I'm wondering for how long. The tech wanted to replace both pulleys and the belt but Vic would only authorize the rear for now. We'll see....

my 04 kingpin did the same thing and what i did to cure it was put a little more tension on the belt and cleaned the sides of the belt with simple green and the noise was gone and every time i washed it i would clean the sides of the belt to keep them from glazing over and making noise !!

I don't really understand the alignment of the belt. At one point the belt is tight and then you roll the bike forward a couple of feet and now the belt is so loose it scare.
You rotate the wheel one way then the other way and you mark the tight spots. How the hell does it get tight? I have pulled the axle and it straight the pulley and wheel are round. So how does this tight spot come from. You rotate the wheel backwards I don't drive it that way I go forward.
I do what the book says I just don't understand.

John, I'm new to belts also, but apparently it is a common characteristic of a belt. There is a place in the belt that causes it to tighten up, that is where you want to measure from. I would guess that spot is from where the belt is bonded together. If you did it from the loose part then you would run the risk of the belt snapping. But over all, a loose belt is not as bad as it seems, so you're okay.

I use silicon on the sides of the belt to keep it quiet.

Get a can of spray silicon and spray some into a small cup. Use a small brush - like a parts brush - and apply it to the sides of the belt as you run it around between the front and rear sprocket.

I do this every month or so and it keeps the tweets away.

One note - it will squeal for a block or so when it is really cold - 50 degrees here in So Cal - but then it goes away.

I have worked in the Industrial Maintenance field for 30 years and one thing that is never done is put belt dressing on a toothed (timing) belt. This is what the drive belt on the Victory is, just made to their specs.

Ok - has anyone seen some really good directions for adjusting the belt?

The manual is a little confusing I know there has to be a simple trick to getting it right.
