Anybody else experiencing some gear whine in 4th gear and up while riding. Yesterday I was driving around town and decided to drive with the radio off for a change to listen to the engine. while driving above about 55mph I can hear some gear whine. I think I read somewhere that this is common for Victory bikes and that is why they put thicker engine cases on the Vision. Is this true and should I just ride with the radio on and not worry about it. The bike has about 600 miles on it and I change the oil last week. Thanks for any input.

4th gear is real noisy. After stage 1 pipes and a few thousand miles you wont notice it at all. Enjoy.

2 4 and 6 are noisier on all 08. 1 3 and 5 are real quiet.
they cross cut the gears to strengthen the gearbox.
after 9400 miles and full synthetic oil in crankcase noise is lower, but not gone.
stage 1 pipes help too.

Radio volume for me has always taken care of a multitude of problems.

I have notice a reduction of gear noise over the miles, now riding at 9.3k. I also was told today that the bike has a more throatier sound then back in November when I got it. They said it had a tinny sound to it, but now it's deeper sounding. I just told them it is grown up now. I'm going in for the 10k in a couple of weeks and after that service, I'll do it on my own with full synthetic. Any recommendations? Just kidding, don't start an oil debate, sorry.

One more comment. I stopped by a local car show, which of course the cars were the main attraction, though I had a few comments. One lady came up to me when I was leaving and told me she has never seen such a nice looking bike. She is not one to ride or even care about a motorcycle because she is afraid to ride. She said however, the Vision looks like something she would get on if she was to ever ride.

NEWS FLASH: Just hung up with the fine folk at Victory, a young lady taking a survey. All my comments were positive responses with the excepton of fit and finish. Sorry, but I have dimples and they are not cute. I also told her that though I have complained about these issues through my dealer, they only get the "Oh well" response from Victory. I told her I felt that Victory should at least contact the owners with issues and say that they are working on them, or buzz off or something. But to hear nothing from them and to keep the dealer in the middle I felt that was unacceptable. Other than that I gave Victory and the Vision very high marks.

Maybe I should ride without my earplugs sometime and listen for this alleged gear whine.

I got the call from Victory yesterday.  My response was much the same as varyder's, only problems around fit and finish.
