Subject: CB Radio Issue - Question

I have a CB question. When I push the push to talk button to transmit on my CB radio it works but stops transmitting after 6 or 7 seconds so you have to let up on the button and push it again for another 6 to 7 seconds before it stops transmitting again. This is a pain if you have something to say that is longer than 7 seconds. My bike’s build date is 2-08 and my sound system firmware is version 4.11. Fergy who I ride with has a Vision with a build date of 3-08 and his firmware is version 4.13A and he does not have this problem so I am trying to validate if this is a firmware issue or not.

Can anyone else verify they are having this same issue with their CB and if so what firmware version do you have? To test this if you have a CB radio installed you can turn on the CB, go to any channel push and hold the push to talk button and “TX” will show up in the console display showing it is transmitting. After 6 or 7 seconds the TX indicator will go away and transmission will stop instead of continuing for as long as you have the push to talk button depressed.

Many thanks,

I just went out and checked, same problem on the transmit. About 7-8 seconds and it reverts back to the radio. I picked my bike up in January, but don't know how to figure out what firmdate it is.

Directions to get your software version was posted here: http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=548&posts=6&mid=5545&highlight=4%2E11&highlightmode=1&action=search#M5545.

My bike has a 3/08 build date and had version 4.13A and doesn't have the CB issue.

I've not verified it that way, but looking at the disply, but I know when I was traveling with the wife in the car and we used the CB, she never complained of me cutting out. However, after those few seconds as you have mentioned I could not hear me in my headset, but I just kept talking anyway. You might want to check that out to see if you actually quit transmitting or if it just fails to show on the display.

On my bike after the 8 seconds it reverts back to the music that I have on. I would have to think it is not transmitting. I am riding today with some friends, one has a CB, I will test everything out and report back.

Since the version build is an issue it seems, does anyone know how you check the version of the audio build? Appreciate it.

You can find this info out by going into the Radio System Diagnostic menu on your radio. to do this follow the instructions below.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ACC and turn the radio off (Victory Motorcycles is shown on display)
2. Turn ignition switch OFF.
3. Turn ignition switch back to ACC.
4. PRESS & HOLD the #1 preset button and MODE button while turning the radio power ON.
5. The diagnostics mode is entered. Press MODE to toggle through the diagnostic funtions. To exit diagnostics press Power button.

NOTE: A "Watchdog Error Cleared" message will occasionally appear as the first thing displayed. This can be ignored, it is an internal software notification.

6. The first screen shows the radio software (SW) & hardware (HW) revision.

7. The second screen is used to check buttons and button wiring circuts related to the radio / com. system. The display contains two lines of "Zeros". Each location corresponds to a radio button on the radio, handlebar switches, or passenger switches. A (0) represents a button not being pressed. A one (1) represents a button being pressed. If a "1" appears at an address in the upper or lower row of the radio display the button and circuit wiring are funtioning correctly.

8. The third screen shows Tuner location, which will always be set to USA.

9. The forth screen list the status of the radio amplifier.

10. The fifth screen displays vehicle speed. This can be used to test if the radio is receiving the vehicle speed CAN message from the PCM. It could also be used to test for a faulty CAN bus connection to the radio. If the speedometer is working but the radio is showing zero speed, it has no CAN connection.

11. If there are no accessories installed on the vehicle, the display will go back to the first screen. If accessories are installed, there are additional diagnostics screens for each accessory, showing the SW & HW revisions, etc.

I have checked this out and it does quit transmitting.

I checked my out again yesterday and the CB seems to work fine. I know there was some moisture in the air and probably some in the wiring. The pillion rode and we used the headsets and there was a high pitch squeal when we first hooked them up. After turning it off and on, it seem to work fine. I would have the dealer recheck all the wiring connections to see if that makes a difference. It almost seems I've got a new bike after the last service at 7,500 miles. The strange things that used to go on with the audio has disappeared with the exception of that squealing thing. My wife seems to think that the bike doesn't like her, sort of like that Christine car movie and it was squealing because she was on it. We assured her that wasn't the case...
