Recall Date: 03/14/2008
Defect Summary:
Polaris is recalling 1,585 model year 2008 Victory Vision motorcycles. The electrical contact plate on the ignition switch base may not be properly secured to the ignition switch body, which can cause an unexpected loss of electrical power to the vehicle.
Consequence Summary:
A loss of electrical power could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a loss of control and a vehicle crash.
Corrective Summary:
Dealers will fully secure the ignition switch base to the switch body. The recall is expected to begin during March 2008. Owners may contact Polaris/Victory at 1-888-704-5290.

Edmonton, AB | One interesting thing about this recall notice is that we now know there were at least 1585 Visions manufactured for 2008. This is likely the closest "estimate" we have received so for for total production numbers. |

Western WA | You're welcome JAM, and thanks for putting that up. I just happened to stumble across the info last night and thought it might be helpful. A RSS from the site would be great!
Newfile, I thought the same thing about the production numbers. I had asked in another thread if anyone knew how many Visions had been produced to date. I think this recall gives us a good idea. |

One interesting thing about this recall notice is that we now know there were at least 1585 Visions manufactured for 2008. This is likely the closest "estimate" we have received so for for total production numbers.
Yes, I thought that as well. That's 1585 Visions over 43 weeks, or about 37/week. That extrapolates out to 1924/year, much higher than previously estimated. |

I was told by a past Victory executive who left Victory in September of last year that the plan was to produce between 3,00 and 3,500 Vision's the first year. I was told this week by another current Victory executive that the Vision has done so well they have increased production over their previous plan. |

Memphis | I asked my dealer about the recall today and he hadn't heard anything about it. He got on the computer and couldn't find anything except the voltage regulator recall. I went to the NHTSA and couldn't find anything on it. Something should be there if it went into effect March 14th. The number looks legit, just doesn't show up anywhere except motorcycleviews.com.

Just plug in 08V131000 in the Campaign ID search box.
Also, from the same page you can drill down through 'type', 'year', 'make', etc. and it shows up with the alternator/generator/regulator recall.

20 miles west of Chicago. | Got the official recall letter 04/10. Dealer has recieved the necessary parts and I will be taking it in Tuesday or Wednesday to have the fix done. Anxious to see if it cures the engine stopping on decel problem, which has been happening less often lately, but still does happen. Under some traffic conditions those rolling re-starts can be a little hairy.

Central Florida | Mine was done yesterday along with audiofirmware 4.13 update.
Ipod works great and ignition still works same as before.

Jacksonville Florida | My dealer went into the dealers system network today per my request and the recall is there. The service manager said that when they receive a new bike they put the vin # in their system and all recalls that apply to that vin pop up, then they fix them and give you a print out of what was done. |

Prescott Valley, AZ | I got the recall notice from Polaris in today's mail, so keep your eye's on the mail. I'll call the dealer on Monday to schedule the fix.

LaPorte,Tx. | I was at the service department last week getting 5000 mile service, and told them about the recall. They looked it up on the computer and said they need a part to make the repairs and that would have to be ordered. They would let me know when it arrived and I'd have to bring the bike back in. On Monday, I got the notice in the mail from Victory, it did not mention any part needed and said it would take service to do the recall service in 15 minutes. Does anyone know for sure if it really needs a part, or is service blowing smoke again! If there is not part needed, now I'm  because now I have to go back. |

20 miles west of Chicago. | I just had the recall done last Tuesday. The dealer told me that a part was neccessary and he had them. I have no reason to disbelieve him. |

Florida | I was told the same thing...that a part is needed. It strikes me as strange that since Victory knows exactly how many Visions have been sold and from which dealers, that at least a few parts weren't sent to the dealers at the time of recall. My dealer still does not have the parts and was wondering that since the notice states in bold, "Do not operate your motorcycle until all repairs have been completed," what are you guys doing? I live around 45 miles from the dealership...does that mean that the dealer needs to pickup the bike?
What are you doing in this situation? Are you riding while you wait for the parts? |

20 miles west of Chicago. | There may have been a period of time between the recognition of the problem and the receipt of the part for the fix during wich it had to be designed, manufactured and distributed to the dealerships. As for the legal caveat, we know we're going to ride the bikes in, Victory knows we're going to ride the bikes in, and even the lawyers in Victory's legal dept. know we're going to ride the bikes in. The caveat is an attempt to shift liability to the owners.; I mean, what would you do considering the circumstances? I don't know how well the caveat would hold up in a civil court however, for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is the lack of a specific offer to provide transportation of the bikes or to do the repair in situ. The whole world, and I mean everything and every institution, runs on BS. |

Florida | As a C.Y.A. measure, you may consider emailing your dealer asking about picking up the bike and whether or not to ride until the parts are available. Even if you don't receive a response, you at least documented your question in writing. Let's hope that nothing happens during this period, but if so, you can state that you contacted the dealer in writing (email) and didn't receive a response. So you "assumed" (yes, I know what that means!) that it was okay to ride. |

| The information I received from my dealer is that a part is needed......he said about a week the he will have them. The problem shows up on bikes with higher mileage..... if your bike is new (like mine) Ill just get it done at the first service and keep driving it untill then. |
