When I went to the AVR I was stunned at the number of people who lived in Spirit Lake that had no idea the Vision was made there.

One retired couple walked up to me and asked "What all of these wild looking motorcycles doing in Spirit Lake this weekend?"  I said "This is the national rally for Victory Motorcycles.  Put on by the workers from the Polaris plant."  They said "Why would they put on a rally for you fellas?"  I said "This is a Victory motorcycle.  Those guys build them here!"  They replied "No kidding!  They build those here!?  Did they just start making them?"  I said "Nope, they've been out for three years now.  How long have you guys lived in Spirit Lake?"  "Oh, about 15 years.  We have friends that work there but we had no idea they were making stuff like this!"

I couldn't believe it.  How can they not have a clue?  Then it dawned on me that Spirit Lake does not have a Victory dealership (ironic) and the local population would never see anything coming out of the factory.  Parts go in one end and the bikes come out all crated up.  Amazing.

The Spirit Lake dealership folded in 03 or 04.

It's hard to make money if most people can buy at employee prices.
