San Antonio, TX | I was looking in the Gallery yesterday and saw lennyb's Garage Door Modification. I said that I should do that....so I did!

I did have my Genie opener Velcro'ed to the top of the glove box. I pulled it out and took it apart. There is a simple contact switch that makes the unit function. By shorting the switch I could operate the door.
Being a part time Amateur Radio instructor I have quite a lot of electronic parts. I found a mini spring loaded toggle switch and some light stranded wire. I soldered the wires in parallel to the units switch and the toggle switch on the other end of the wires.
I made a small cut in the grommet for the added wire. I moved the velcro from the glove box to the top of the same cubby hole that lennyb used and stuck the opener in place. There was so much dust in that cubby hole I did not think it got very wet in there. Just to be safer I mounted it to the top of the box.
It runs on a 12 volt battery and I left it that way. I might power it off of the bike in the future.
After that I drilled a hole and mounted the switch.
It works great and I can operate with either hand! I will be changing out the switch for a push button. A push button makes more since because the mini toggle has to be flipped in the proper direction to work.
Thanks lennyb for the idea. It is cheaper then Flash2Pass since I already had the parts.

Lehigh Valley, Pa | I put a rocker switch in the open position which is wired to a old opener which I secured under the access panel in front of the seat. Works great, however I am going to replace the switch this winter with a waterproof switch. Cost me $2. |

| Where was every one a month ago? At the local harley dealer he had 2 garage door openers for $60 and $39 the only problem is you wire it into your headlight. We all know the hell there is with the headlight. Now I just use my high low button and the door goes up. The pain of getting behind the headlight is all most out of my mind. Hoosiervic I wish I would have done your way how simple. |

Perry Hall, MD | Glad it worked for you Radioteacher. For about $6 mine has been working great and no need to find the key if the bike is sitting outside and I just want to put the door up to grab the lawn trimmer when the Mrs. says so. |

Same type of mod. Just a different switch location.

I really like Flash2Pass but I already had everything I need to do the mod....So this was 15 minutes and it was free...well already paid for. Really it took 45 minutes to find the soldering station that I did not put up correctly when I did the KY4710 trunk light mod. Then it took 15 minutes to do the mod.

Thanks again for posting the picture. I have a better stock of parts then Radio Shack...no really....I am not kidding around. I have a MUCH better stock of parts.
For example about 19 years ago I got a call at dinner time from a Radio Engineer that does work at a local station in my area. He asked "Do you have any 14 pin Dual Inline Sockets?" With out a blink I said "How many do you need? The reply was "All you have." I found 16 of them and drove to the station. The AC Unit pan filled up and over-flowed right into three racks of equipment. What idiot would put the building AC Unit right above the Comm Racks????

Kansas City, MO | If you have a Genie I or II, Home Depot has a opener that is the size of a key fob. After you program the unit, I keep mine on the key chain and remove it for easy access when I ride. Be sure you check what unit you have before you buy one, they are model specific. They come with easy instructions for programing too as well as an 800 number to call if it still doesn't make sense. |

Richmond, Virginia | Ok mine seems the simplest. I purchased an additional remote from Apple Doors (they make a small unit that fits on a keyring), once I
programmed it to my rolling system, i velcro'd it on the inside of the gas tank down the center of the drive station. Left side, now all I have to do is drive up reach down push the button and im done. |

I will checkout that location. I am not happy with its current location and I want to move the switch.

Mine sits under an Oak tree all day while I toil at work....at night I give it clean stable and a fresh bag of oats.
