Brighton, TN | Sometimes it just makes your head hurt and pocket book get light. I have just a few days before the extended warranty runs out. Looking at extending it, it should cost me around another $300.
See, I have managed to use it just about every year.
I have replaced the seat, speaker, both lit badges, left side radio control, handgrips (yesterday), sent the radio back, and I'm sure a few more items.
I'm on the fence and need to fall off, one way or the other. |

Pittsburgh, PA | I'm shocked your even allowed to extend an already extended warranty?? In the past Honda and Kawasaki wouldn't allow this. I didn't know our warranty's can be extended if it was already extended once.. |

Brighton, TN | supposedly from my dealer, so long as the warranty doesn't run out on you, meaning you are still covered, I can pay the difference out to whichever timeframe. I was thinking of adding the next two years on. I like some here don't normally buy the extended warranty and I like chasing down whatever problem I have with the bike. It leaves little to do for my mechanic except run the paperwork, order the parts, and apply my deductible and install parts.
I don't normally seem to have this many problems with equipment, but I seem to manage to get most of them handled before the warranty runs out. I just don't know if adding the next two years, will be dang glad I did it or will it be I gave the money to a CAUSE! |

| Sounds to me you have already saved the amount to extended it the next 2 years. Go for it.
They replaced my entire wiring harness under the main warranty and I bought the 4 more years so I figure I won't need it. |

Any chance you tried to negotiate the price a bit? I mean I like my dealer...a lot....however money is money. So therefore I'd negotiate. I guess the way I look at dealer mark-up on warranties is all they are doing is filling out some paperwork, maybe might take them 10 minutes or so. Everyone knows that extended warranties are a very decent money-maker for dealers. Why give them a profit of $100 (or more) for 10 minutes of paperwork? I'm not saying they aren't entitled to profit.....just saying to negotiate the profit level. |

New Bohemia, VA | po - I teetered too and at the last moment on my way to Texas in Nov of 08 I stopped and had it extended, the warranty that is. I'm not a warranty person and believe in "drivin' 'er till she blows". Well, this past summer that warranty payed (??) off when the sucker/blower thing that works the fuel went out, I think you remember, everybody remembers. That warranty thingy took right care of it, labor and all, and I think they even worked the trailering (shame, shame) bill in there too! |

Peachtree City, GA | Second or third party company... I am still fighting with Polaris Star on my Vision head light holding water... They are saying it is a "wear item"... Which we all know a head light casing is not an item that just wears out...
So if I had to actually pay for an extended warrarty - I would save my money!

Me too....and the extended warranty covered it too...along with the gear shift indicator all happend at once. Wonder what's the deal with the speedo unit. The malfunctioning speedo unit also caused a few other electrical glitches...interesting.
P.S. Almost forgot to remind you to look at the answers to the extended warranty poll thread posted a few weeks ago...lots of people have answered it.

po, because you already have the warranty and have used it several times you understand fully how it work and have read over the contract. For $300, I would say get it, you can't go wrong. Besides the electrical issues some of the 08s are having, mine has had the fuel pump and stator replaced once it got over 40k miles. Those two jobs done by the dealer cost around $1500. The dealer I bought my bike from has a $93/hr charge out rate for repairs. But there are things the contract will NOT cover...like the headlight, it says that. |

Brighton, TN | Well, the update, it seems after all the whole thinking process and listing it up here to kinda clear my brain cells. Yeah, i took a look at the poll and answered myself. I am unable to extend it anymore according to my sales guy. They have been telling me so long as it was under contract I could extend. Well, I was under contract and I guess Polaristar was unwilling to extend it. So, I don't know, just what I was told. I wonder if anyone has been able to extend theirs. Meaning I was at the end of the extended contract not the first year. And was unable to buy up. I bought the extended two year at purchase time for like $600. |

My dealer sold me an extended warranty that was NOT Polaris-star. I'm going to have to go search for the paperwork when I get home to tell you who it is through. I've never had to use it; so I have no idea if its worth the paper it's printed on or if the company still exists.
Doing a quick google search , there appears to be a number of companies and price points available that sell warranties for "used" motorcycles including warranties sold by "extended warranty service brokers". Who knew such a thing existed.
My guess is that if your dealer was interested in such a thing they could become a warranty dealer for any number of products. There would probably be a required service check before the bike could be covered but it looks like you do have options. If you want them. |
