I've heard from different people that you can play a playlist from your ipod on through the Vision radio. Anyone know how this is done? Mine seems to play all the songs on my ipod (actually iphone) regardless of the playlists.

Jeff,
The buttons on the console that you change the radio stations should play your playlists that you set up in ITUNES. Button 1 should play all songs, button 2 should play first playlist, #3 should play next and so on. Thats what mine does anyway.

Jeff, check out Teach's pdf mentioned previously. It helped me enjoy my radio/ipod tremendously. Thanks for taking the time and effort Teach!!

Read that PDF. I seem to recall that the iphone did not allow the playlist feature (hence your issue). Playlists may only work with iPod's.

I did not know that about the iPhone. I do not have one but there are some iPhone power users at work I can ask about playlists. I will report what they say in the morning.

Thanks for the quick replies. I can report that it DOES work with the iphone just like the ipod that radioteacher's pdf explains. Sweet!! FYI, when I connect the iphone, I get a message on the iphone screen saying the attached device is not compatible with the iphone, but it still charges, the Vision's controls operate it and play songs fine.

Jeff,

That great! I did confirm that the iPhone does support Playlists and all of the features of an iPod Nano. Did you add a radio to your 8-ball or get a different Vision?

Ride Safe and have fun!

First of all, hats off to radioteacher; this is the first time I have seen his iPod Interface Guide, and it is quite impressive, and accurate! Personally, I am fairly well versed with iTunes and iPod, and have not had a problem running my iPod on the Vision. A couple of points that may be a repeat for some, and new for others, but perhaps worth noting.

Always make sure your iPod (no matter what version) AND Vision sound system have up to date software. You can get the most current software for your iPod on line, and for your sound system from your dealer (as has been mentioned before).

Secondly, for those who have more than 11 playlists, you need to upload your music manually. All this means is you need to select your playlists just as radioteacher states in his Guide, but only check those 11 you want. Personally, I have almost 10,000 songs and more playlists than I care to think about, so what I do is just make playlists that start with "Road", such as "Road Rock" or "Road Soundtracks", etc. (And yes, I know those are genres as well, but since some songs' genres done always fit what I think they should be, I make my own.) That way when I plug in my iPod to update the songs, I know just what playlists I want to import.

These are probably really basic things that everyone knows, but I thought I would put it out there anyway, just in case someone may find it useful.

Jeff,

I have ran my iphone since day one. What helps is to manage your itunes playlists efficiently. Remember that the sort will start form the top. and will be alphabetical... blues will be before jazz, which will be before reggae, etc. Like wizzard said, choose playlist names carefully. The sort on the bike will start with the upper left console button, and go left to right. I like to keep my device on shuffle. If I want to hear a song more often, I sometimes have more than one copy on each playlist... it just comes up more often.

Right now I am managing about 10 gigs of music and music videos (my iphone lives in a RAM cradle on top of the console most of the time. The music videos are free youtube downloads, handbraked down to mp4 files. Difficult to see in the daylight... deadly at night! Since I live on the edge at times, I often use internal earbuds for bass.

I also keep a redundant ipod in the glove box, always plugged into the bike, same files, same sort.

Yessir, got Victory to OK a radio install. Actully, it now looks like they are allowing folks to get the Vision radio for their 8ball. I know of 2 others that have done the same thing. Wasn't cheap but I like the full integration.

Do you know what the part number(s) are for the radio to work with the new 2011 Vision 8-Ball. And how much should I expect to pay for the part and installation?

Does the OEM radio come with handlebar controls and charge the i-phone as well?

Can't remember the exact price but it was well over $1k. This is because the only way Victory sells the radio and it's associated parts is individually by part number. There is no "kit". Victory did give my dealer a list of parts required for the install. This means every nut, bolt, switch housing, spkr enclosure, etc. There's at least 30 parts (can' remember the exact number) and many are pricey and/or back-ordered. The Victory speakers alone are $104 ea.. I opted not to buy the Victory speakers and went with a Polk db521 at less than half the cost.

Jeff,

That list would make a great tech article. I hope you took pictures! I am going to update my iPod document to reflect the newer cables and newer Visions. I would like to add the Cross Roads but I do not have access to one. Maybe the dealer could hook me up.

Have fun and ride safe!
