While the views of the Grand Canyon on the rim are beautiful they don't make up for how bad the roads are in the park. The tar snakes are so bad that I wondered how there could be any tar left in the world.
I would not recommend riding any kind of bike through. It a shame because otherwise the roads are designed great. Could be fun through the curves if the snakes weren't there to eat to up and sh** you out. A pity they spoil a great NP with tar snakes. If I ever go back it will be to the South Rim.

I thought the south rim was great at 7:00am. Enjoyed a very peaceful view, though there were a few people there, definitely no crowds. Road was very nice as well.

Yeah last year I went to the South rim and enjoyed it 100X more. Both places had about the same amount of people when I was there.

I was at the North Rim a few weeks ago and loved it. The road coming out of the park was one of my favorites. I guess I did not pay enough attention to the tar snakes.

Im planning a trip to the big hole in 3 weeks....still havent decided north or south rim.....cant do both.

At first I was SURE it was north rim......now Im leaning to the south. I dont care about crowds, tar snakes, roads etc......Im looking for the best view of the biggest hole.

I'm heading up there on the 30th of this month for two days at the N.Rim. Staying at Jacob lake, and booked a cabin. Hopefully the roads are not as bad as described. We'll just have to tough it out. Been through worse.

...I don't discount the concern some have in tar snakes, but it seems they are becoming overrated. Riding a motorcycle is a hazard to itself period! I have a greater concern over something spilled on the road from an accident that was never cleaned up properly than I ever will on even unexpected tar snakes. Keep attentive and be skillful in your riding and all that other junk will be just that, junk. Enjoy your ride to the N or S Rim of the Grandest of Canyons, it is beautiful, even from the S. Rim.

I thought that tar snakes were being blown out of perpotion also until I had the front of the Vision slide about 4 inches in the middle of a corner only going about 35mph. It was not a tight corner either. The roads in the park are covered in them. The roads to the gates are beatiful but stink in the park. If you don't mind riding through at about 10-25mph on roads you should be able to do 30-60mph go ahead and enjoy yourself. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on the roads. I tend to be an agresive rider through the twisties. After I see the same scenery for so long I look to the roads to enjoy my bike.
I guess I use the destinations as just and excuse to ride.
