When I was out riding my bike a few weeks ago. ( It is 1400 miles away) I started it up and the idle ran high. About 1900-2000 RPM. When I put the bike into 1st gear it started surging, I would release the clutch and roll out and the surging would stop. When I came off the throttle and pulled the clutch in, the surging would start again. If I went to neutral at the light and released the clutch, the surging would stop. Was not comfortable doing this.

I pulled over after a few minutes in the city. Shut off the bike. Restarted it and the problem was gone. Never came back.. Idles fine around 900 rpm or so

I did not have the fuel controller or intake plate installed yet. They go on this next trip down.

Anyone else ever had this issue? 2008 Vision, bought last August, has 3000 miles.

never heard of the problem. But it sounds like it could have been an issue with the IAC. Next time your @ the dealer have them check the engine codes. They don't always trigger the engine light. But they will stay in history until they are cleared

most likly to do with the idle air control and i am thinking the weather conditions in your area are still cool my play a factor in it. i always give it a few minutes to warm up after a cold start .if it happens again see if the idle settles down after a minute ,should check your battery cables as well ,they come lose and cause all kinds of trouble .

This is actually more common than you would think, and the ONLY way to correct it (out on the road) is to shut the bike down. My Vision has done this several times. Once you shut the bike down, everything goes back to normal. Can't explain it, but I know how to fix it. Probably has happend 3 times in a year.

I was having this problem plus the radio shutting off and messing up. I tightened both battery terminals and all has been good since.

You're right on with the battery cables, the ground in particular. If the battery isn't getting a good charge, the ECU ups the idle speed to get more charge to the battery. If cleaning and tightening the battery cables doesn't work, try cleaning and tightening the ground connection at the front of the engine. You have to remove the the plastic electrical cover at the front of the engine to get at it.

I have this problem now and was curios if the seat got warm when this problem was occurring? This would be in line with what is happening on my bike if the seat was overly warm.

The ground that you are referring to would be the ground that is refferanced in the earlier thread?

When I came here over an over i read about loose cables so I fix them for good. They have never come loose. Star washer local hardware store 1/4" size and 35 cent a peace.
If your isle is way up and you shut it down and all is good spray some carb cleaner up around the FI body's and see if the idle goes back up if so maybe leaky rubbers. ( no one wants leaky rubbers)

Took the bike to the shop and found out it was the alternator. The shop ordered the parts and they should be in next week. Thanks for all your help and ideas.

I haven't been riding much and noticed erratic high idle on my bike. Nothing would bring it down at times. Through the forum I found out the simple fix of loose battery leads. Sure enough , tighten them up and the erratic high idle went away. New lock washers will be next on the list.
Thanks again for great guys and info on the forum.

This problem and proffered solutions are very unlikely to be year or even model specific. Sounds like some helpful info for my cranial knowledge base.

You are correct. The issue is across the board with all of the Vics that use CAN/BUS electronics. In simple terms ALL VICTORY cast frame bikes. They live and die by good connections and consistent voltage

Had to say something didn't I......went to lunch after I posted this. Pull up to a traffic light, idle starts to lope, and dies. Start it up...idle goes to 1500, and and slowly comes down. Then begins to lope, and then die. Get back to the shop, and sure enough....Cable so loose; that I cant figure out how the starter even worked

I know this is old but I'm having a high idle issue also. Cleaned the battery connections and made sure they were tight. Bike starts normal, and idles around 1100- 1300, but doe not go down to a typical 1000 even after waiting until it is warm (waited 5 minutes). When I pull away the first time I come to a stop it goes straight to 1500 to 1700ish RPMs.

The only way I can get it to come down is if I partially let out on the clutch while holding the brake and the idle will come down and stay there until I take off again.

I checked for vacuum leaks using carb cleaner (with a cold start) and it did not change, I made sure to check all the hoses and boots.

write Rylan and ask him. He will get back to you. Pull right hand cheese wedge and check cables to see if there in there tracks

I had the exact same problem, it was vacuum leaks, make sure you check both ends of the lines for the IAC, as well as the boots under the throttle bodies. Some are by the throttle bodies, the other ends are behind the right side wedge.

Mine was cracking in the elbows and connectors lines for the IAC, all of the rubber parts were cracking, I replaced them all ( I changed all 6, replaced them with short hoses and elbows from auto store) and it runs smooth as silk
