I was recently looking into purchasing a carbon fiber helmet this year. Through my searching in march of this year they started a recall on the carbon Fiber helmets. I don't know what happened at the DOT but the specs changed for the helmets and they have been recalled and the 2010 ones have to be redesigned to pass the newspecs. I thought I would bring it to everyones attention.

Take care safe riding

Thanks for the heads up. I just bought a Shoei RF1100 full face helmet. It's not the most expensive helmet on the market but @ $400+ it's not cheap either. I'm not going to be happy if I find out that they are recalling it now. It's supposed to have carbon fiber crumple zones built into it. Where can I find the info on this recall?

I own one and love how small it is, which stops the wind grabbing, neck killing 1/2 helmet tendencies when riding w/o a windshield. . As for the recall I was under the impression it was for ALL of ACCs DOT helmets, regardless of the year purchased. From what I understand they were NEVER compliant and fail the 'puncture' test, hence the recall. You'd think with Kevlar reinforcement this wouldn't be the case but apparently not. Are you sure it's only the ones produced recently?

I have the Daytona carbon fiber beenie as does my wife for those real hot days when you want a lid, but don't want the weight. Not sure what folks wear OR don't and I surely never promote or discourage helmet wear, BUT I have found the Bell Mag8 very comfy if you like 3/4 lids with a drop shield (as lite as the DOT beenie mentioned), and the HJC modulars (all of them) work really nice is you do a great deal of touring and only want to carry a single lid for all occasions. I live in a "choice" state so I play it as a feel on the day, but I travel every summer (all summer) and ride in numerous states that are not choice. Figure if you don't have a say in wearing you may as well find one you like.
About the post? Well I know several beenie style lids have been recalled over the past 5 years, most for the puncture issue on the very top of the lid. I still haven't met that poor unfortunate soul that falls directly on the very top of their head, lol... It is generally on beenies of the extreme lite variety like NexL, CarbonFiber and Daytona. NexL had the reinforcement on top and a strap issue. So it is worth looking to see exactly what the recall is for. You might find it a better use of time to replace an old lid rather than doing the recall. Just sayin..... T
