That I take my bike home for a putt so it can go back in for a waranty repair . Yep she is broke AGAIN.
Last year at the end of the season I was noticing a fuel smell but figured it just needed a new fuel cap. The past couple weeks of riding but no fuel smell so obviously no problem, other than of course the sticking float which I figured I can live with.
So today was beautiful and was out for a putt. Decided it was time to fuel up so I did. I normally leave some space in the tank so as to not fill it up into the neck and today was no different. Ate a candy bar, drank some soda and headed down the road. The fuel smell was real strong which reminded me I should probably look into getting a new cap and then I came to a stop at a traffic light and the smell was REALLY strong. I look down and the gas is just pouring off the motor onto the ground. Light changes and I motor into a parking lot, shut the bike down and start having a look. Fuel is just gushing out just under where the fill spout is, so I kick the door open and pull the cap. Fuel is all the way at the top of the neck with the bike on the side stand. So I wiggle the bike and it bubbles as the fuel goes back down. So I put the cap back on and let it sit for a few minutes, pull the cap, and yep fuel is all the way back up again. So off I go to the dealer, fuel spilling and all.
Dealers service tech calls Vic and they ask about which cap is on the bike and suggest they see if air will pass through the vent tube... Of course we hadn't checked this but I knew no fuel had vented out of it, so it was pretty obvious to me that air wasn't going to pass through it, the ole path of least resistance thing. Figured if fuel is pushing itself past the fuel cap rather than out the vent tube, something has the tube blocked. So their tech checks it and sure enough nothing passes through the line from the open end of the tube into the fuel tank (pump). So the bike goes in again Monday to see if they can figure out why the over flow isn't venting.
I've been trying to find a diagram of the pumps internals but haven't found one, but it seems strange to me that you'd be able to blow air from the outlet side of that line into the pump/tank. I would have figured there would be a check valve inline???? Perhaps I'm wrong but would be the first bike I've owned that didn't have an inline check valve on the overflow. I would again be guessing but if there is one it would have to be a part of the fuel pump since there is not any check valve on the line anywhere.
Anyhow I'll post when I know the cause in case someone else has a problem with it in the future.

Now really this is kinda working out in that my 08 is almost a 10, but it reminds me of the Ole Johnny Cash song where he steals one piece of car from his job at a time until he has a complete one, but it is all different years. Lol........

Just my view, I've owned three Vics and have had only one issue with the vent tube. Things have got better it use to be if the vent tube was blocked it would suck your tank in.

hi,
i just had my vent "repaired" under warranty, if the bike was overfilled the overflow went directly onto the engine, which could of been a disaster,
so i was extra careful filling the bike, and then at a service it was "repaired" i didnt get to speak to tech, so i wasnt sure what the problem was.
my VV is an 08 build as well

regards
phil

Teach in 2008 you were good enough to let me know that PA does not have a lemon law for motorcycles. I contacted my senator and two years in a row he proposed that motorcycles be included. Both years it was not enacted. I can give you his info privately if you want to try to pursue it. Not sure why it was defeated. I can speculate that HD has a factory near Harrisburg but that is pure speculation. Send me a pm if you think it might help. At least he is responsive and sympathetic.

Teach,

Almost the same thing happened to me, but it was within weeks of my purchase.

Victory replaced the fuel tanks, and I haven't had a problem since. Not saying that's your issue. I'm just sharing what happened with me.

You know teach some times i think i have bad luck with my 08 Vision but man I sure do feel for ya brother. I just had a head light go out and had to have my dealer replace it. I have replaced every bulb on any bike i have owned in the past myself and it just killed me to have to pay the dealer $113.00 labor only to replace mine. I ride with high beams on 24/7 so not sure if they may have casued it but a bummer non-the-less. I'm starting to really look at the Cross Country bike just for ease of working on it and the looks too. Good luck brother and keep us informed.

... how lucky I am with year 3 starting next week. Only the radio control has been fixed in that time by my dealer. Nothing fixed by me.... or needing fixing.
Maybe Tim (TEACH) got the 'hex' and is serving judgement for all (or most) of the rest of us...THANKS, TIM for taking it for the TEAM !!!

Lol, well I did seem to get all the bugs but I still like the bike. I may be tempted to get something else but alas I cannot force myself to give up my power windshield, lol...

Anyhow I did want to update you guys on the new headlite assy that replaces the old which crack and separate. Had the new one Victory sent to the dealer just as the snow was flying about 2-3 weeks back. Since the bike will be in the dealer for a few days while they get this venting issue fixed I had a look at the new headlite just so they could update Victory as to how it is working out. The good news is I don't see any separation, BUT I have about a half dozen cracks already, one is linear (haven't seen that before). Since I haven't had a necessity to wash the bike yet I have no idea if it has separated and is leaking but I don't see the telling sign's that it is. I suppose the cracks are something that can be lived with so long as no moisture is getting inside the lense.

Your new headlight is cracked already???
You're not going to accept it are you?
Have them send you another until they get it right..

rwilly, actually this is number 5 for the headlite replacement. This most recent one is suppose to be the new and improved Vision headlite that doesn't crack and separate. Guess that isn't working too well, lol...

Update on the fuel pressurizing, spilling on the motor issue. Dealer believes the issue is the result of the bent filler neck, I'm thinking no way. However they are the techs so they have a work request in to victory and we'll see tomorrow what they decide. Since the filler neck has been bent since the second week I've owned the bike and didn't start this until last fall, and since fluid will always take the path of least resstance and yet it is pushing past the gas cap and not going out the overflow vent, I'm not going to hold my breath on this being the fix (if Victory authorizes it).
I'll work the headlite issue after I see what comes of his fuel issue, but I have to say I'm getting to the end of this drama pretty soon. I have been pretty patient but this will be another week or so without the bike because it is in for something stupid that I suspect won't result in a fix the first time. Any way you slice this I'll need to take it in again afterwards for the headlite which will again crack. May need to look at replacing it with something else because at this stage I'm just fed up.
I'll keep you guuys updated as soon as I know more on the fix.

Ok they replaced the right fuel tank, gas cap and fill neck on the Vision and I got her back today. Don't know if this will cure the issue completely but I hope it at least takes care of the venting all over my motor. My Tech seems to think it will so fingers crossed. I don't believe he reported the new headlite being cracked already so I plan to call Victory myself on Monday or Tuesday. According to the shop records the new headlite went in on 3/30/2010 and was reported cracked on the 1st of April but I'll call that a typo since it was actually reported on the 9th. Sure didn't take long to crack, about 300 miles.

I washed my bike a couple weeks ago and noticed the inside of the HID lens had moisture running down the inside of the lens... I have no cracks, but I only have 3000 miles on the bike. I bought it last August, was new in the crate. I did get the 5 year warranty extension as part of a promotion..

whinchey, if you don't see any separation or cracks I wouldn't be too concerned. Have a reach behind the headlite assy and make sure your rubber boot is seated. The cracks and separation NORMALLY appear along the top of the lite assy. I wouldn't be concerned unless the top lense fogs.
