Wife and I planning our first week long trip on our Vision from Spirit Lake, IA, down through Omaha to Denver, CO the back home via Casper, WY and Rapid City, SD. We are riding week of May 24th.

Planning to stay off interstates as much as possible and traveling NMT 300 miles per day . . . taking our time. Anyone recommend any scenic roads, interesting attractions, or any roads to clearly avoid? Don't know about elevations and how difficult any of these mountain passes might be . . . we are adventurous, but don't want to be dangerous. Any recommendations?

These are a few of my favorite rides I have taken in the past.
My wife and I are planning on taking some of this route on a early June trip to Utah and Colorado.

I like highway 20 across Nebraska, nice road rolling prairie until you get to the sand hills.
Highway 50 across Kansas is nice also and will take you into Pueblo, CO and is a great ride through the mountains of Colorado.
Don't miss the Million Dollar Highway Hwy 550 Durango to Montrose.
In Wyoming I like 189 north out of Jackson, WY, nice ride along the Grand Tetons. Then Hwy 26 to Riverton, WY at Riverton stay on 26 to hwy 20 thru Thermopolis then take hwy 16 to Buffalo, WY.
Hop on I-90 east to Moorcroft, WY take Hwy 14 to the Devil's Tower loop and come back out to Sundance, WY.
At Sundance take 585 to Four Corners then take 85 northeast toward Deadwood, you can take the Spearfish Canyon Road Hwy 14A to Spearfish, SD. Then you have the entire Black Hills, no bad rides there. Then I would recommend Hwy 44 back to I-29 in South Dakota and home across Iowa.

Enjoy the ride!

US Hwy 30 is nice and goes along the Platte River in Nebraska. It has the main line of Union Pacific with regular train traffic to break things up. Hop on Hwy 2 out of Grand Island. This is a Scenic Byway that Charles Kuralt of CBS Sunday Morning really likes. It is in the middle of nowhere but has a desolate beauty to it. It also has regular train traffic along side with the BNSF Railroad. This will get you into SW South Dakota. Then up US 385 out of Hot Springs, SD into the Black Hills.
