Northwest of you
It looks like there will be a new Vision in my future.

I will probably do something next week and having never had a "touring" bike before, I don't want to end up saying "I wish I had thought of that before..."

Here's where I am so far and I request any thoughts, suggestions and recommendations.

Black Premium Street

One year extended warranty (usually, I wouldn't extend the warranty, but, a dealer recommended on a "new release" bike, to cover electronics and other "untested" stuff, for an extra year would be "smart")

No Stage One. (My understanding is that stage one on the Vision doesn't yeild more power, but only more "loud" and I am not looking for this bike to be loud, I have a JP for LOUD)

No tour pack (I have an agreement with the dealer that if I want one later, I can buy it at his cost and right now if I buy the "Tour" the cover plate is not available, due to demand)

I assume there is a power outlet for my Garmin and so........

That's all I can think of for now, I welcome your input...........

Personally, I would recommend going with the factory harness/connection kit for the GPS as it sends the audible turn-by-turn commands to the bike's speakers. This way, you won't have to take your eyes off the road. I considered placing my own GPS on the bike, but at highway speeds, I don't think you be able to hear the directions from the tiny built-in speaker. Yes, it costs more to purchase one of the Garmins that will cooperate with the Vision and you can purchase other GPS units with more features for less dollars. But if you really want GPS, going with a compatible Garmin model might be an area not to scrimp.

You're correct about the stock pipes as they sound refined. However, personally I'm enjoying the Level 1's and the gunner tips add a nice touch.

I'm waiting for my cover plate so that I can remove the trunk. Supposedly, it should be here within a week or so. We'll see about that one.

Also, I ordered the Trunk Wall Mount as it seems like the best way to protect the trunk from scratches/dents when not in use. Also, it will free up some garage space. That piece is also due in next week.

I'm not sure about the power outlet, but I think it's just a connector and that an additional part to make it usable. I'm unsure about this as I'm not using it, but I'm sure others who are more knowledgeable will chime in on this one.

I have a little different recommendation for the GPS solution.  Since the current Victory Garmin unit is an obsolete 2720 model I am going to use my current Garmin Zumo 550. Arizona Victory (520-770-9500) has manufactured a billet bracket for the Zum0 550 that looks like and mounts in the same place as the Victory mount but is a little taller to work with the Zumo 550. Currently the Zumo 550 will not integrate with the Vision audio system but I have talked to the engineer at Victory in charge of this area and they are working on support for the Garmin Zumo 550. He said he uses a Zumo 550 himself on his bike. Victory knows they need to support these new models and will.

In the meantime I think it is a big deal as I don’t currently use the voice announcement option on the Garmin or the built in GPS in the car. My guess is Victory will have Zumo 550 support within a few months. The Zumo 550 is a much better device than the 2720 and I like it much better than the 2820. It was designed for a bike and has many design features that benefit bikers.

Some of the features I like about the Zumo 550 are:
  - Brighter display
  - Touch screen and controls specifically designed to work with winter thick gloves
  - Garmin lock, secure mount feature for bikes that allows quick release
  - 4 hour batter support so you can take it in the dinner or hotel and work on routes etc.
  - High sensitivity receiver, work better in areas where you have obstructions
  - Supports SD data cards to store songs for the MP3 player, pictures etc.
  - It has a picture viewer function
  - Configurable icons for display to show a motorcycles or cars

Even if the dealer sells you the tour pack at his cost he should be cheaper to go with the tour premium from the get go. Once you have the tour pack on you will probably want to keep it on as the extra storage is really handy for running errands and the additional rear speakers really enhance the sound.

I plan to stay with the stock pipes as I have learned on longer trips quite is better and I want to be able to hear the sound system when listening via the speakers.

I ordered the XM Radio option, CB, iPod cable, trunk and saddlebag organizers and liners and foot pegs. I also ordered a Arai helmet with integrated speakers with microphone from JM Audio and will probably get their upgraded speakers for the Vision. I am also going to order the backrest from Utopia products.

-I really like the stage 1 with the tailgunner tips. Nice sound and not too loud. The tips are awesome! I think there IS a performance advantage.
-XM radio works great if you don't mind the price.
-Find out what your dealer will sell you the trunk for, minus $100, (cost of the cover plate if you buy the Tour and want to convert to a Street) If it's $1000 or less it will be just as cheap to get the trunk from your dealer.

As was recommended, I would get the S1L1. Not for the sound (they're louder, but not loud), but for the performance. They're not going to make the bike faster, but the S1L1 pipes and the VFCIII really smoothed things out quite a bit. I don't think I'm quicker or faster (although I haven't had her tuned on the dyno, yet), but the jerkyness of a lean bike is gone...

Mike s,
Did you remove the "baffle" behind the air filter when you installed the
VFC III? Also, did you change the tuning any when you
installed it? Mine will be here this week-just wondering.

Yea, Lloyd mentioned it to me: It's a rubber insert( like several tubes) that is behind the filter. Lloyd says the airflow is better with it
removed. I haven't gone in there yet- was wondering how to hold my mouth while trying to remove it.Lloyd just said it was a little tricky.

I remember seeing a tube in the stripped down version at the IMS, but I figured it was there as a conduit to run wires or something down through the frame. I guess not. I'll have to dig into it and see what I can figure out with it. However, it'll likely wait until I strip things down for powdercoat and paint.

Nowor218...your on the right path. As the prior owner of a HD, I bought the 5 yr warrenty on my Vision Premium. You might want to look into that. As you mentioned, "noise" isn't something your looking for in pipes, good on you. The stock pipes rumble pretty good under a good throttle twist. (I had Vanes/Hines slash cuts on the HD) To be honest, I don't miss the noise. I've heard complaints about the stereo speakers lack quality, but mine kick butt. I have a simple MP3 player connected and I'm happy. It's old, and didn't cost a thing (was a gift 3 years ago). GPS is really not needed but some can't live with out one. I think getting lost is half the fun, and I'm rarely riding on a timeline anyways.
I got the tour pack, and heated grips/seat. I think it would be easier to remove the trunk than have to buy one later and install it. I hardly use the side bags because the trunk is huge. I have only owned HD prior to this bike, and I migh not know what I'm missing with not having the GPS and other extras. Ignorance is bliss. Good luck, and hope the bike you get makes YOU happy.
