Tucson, AZ | For awhile I have been smelling gas and on a couple of occacions have seen gas blowing from the right side of the motor. All along I was thinking it was built up pressure and forceing it out of the injectctors, but one day I left the fuel door open on a ride and lo and behold the gas was coming out of the cap. I do not hang the pump nozzle on the lip and looked closely at the cap. It is kind of spring loaded but one side (inside) was not moving so whichever way I put the cap on gas was bypassing the seal. So I had Arizona Victory order me a new cap which I got and the gasket inside the cap is way different. Instead of just the flat part to seal on top of the fill spout there is a piece that actually goes over the fill spout , almost like a lid on a jar. No more gas smell, my milage has gone up a bit, (sometimes I lost almost 3/4 of a gallon). So if you have a gas smell, check your cap. Seem corporate knows there is a problem and re-engineered the cap gasket....

| Got my new cap last Friday. What a difference. My dealer had replaced my tank once under warranty trying to stop the leak and the smell.
Second tank was worse than the first. My one issue with the bike is now gone.
Now I am going to have to find something else to bitch about. |

Denver | I went and ordered mine today... Why didn't you guys say how much they were.... 45 bozo bucks seems like a lot for a gas cap. I kept asking,,,, "you're sure you just ordering the GAS CAP?"

Dallas, Texas | My Dealer got me one for free...should be covered in warranty and/or a recall if you ask me. They also replaced the float and sending unit in the gas tank. It was really messed up. That split tank and such was a great idea, but in the real application, I think it missed the mark. IMHO. |

Some customers have been complaining about a fuel smell and it turns out that if you have this problem, it could be caused by the gas cap not sealing properly. The new cap has a beefier seal that seals around the filler neck and not just on the top lip. The part number on the new gas cap is 2877937...although I just checked and it's currently on backorder with an ETA of 9/16...looks like more than a few of you have been having this problem. |

Las Vegas | What we have noticed at our service shop, if you look at your gas cap, when placing it back onto your bike, the words (unleaded fuel only) should be on the inside on the bike. If it is facing outwards, you have it on wrong and will have problems.

Prescott, Az | I just dropped my bike off for a new Tank under warranty. I had the new cap (warranty) and it stopped it for a while. Now it looks like when I twist the cap back on its strarting to twist the whole neck. So now I get a new tank, but I'm sorry to hear the replacement may not be any better than the original. I did tell them to leave the replacement cap ON as a new stock cap was sent with the tank. |

New Bohemia, VA | who makes the tanks? is this a Victory problem, or a Victory vendor problem? well, either way it is still a Victory problem. I feel a little left out here as I've got a 2008 serial # 3114 and everything seems perfectly fine. I've even let the nozzle "hang" in the neck and it has no issue. Could someone post their old cap and a pic of the new cap. I'll try to post mine sometime tomorrow. I just thinking they got a bad batch of tanks from a vendor. |

| I think I overfilled the tank once and had a gas smell for a couple days. I've been careful not to overfill and haven't had a problem since. I have an '09 with only about 1000 miles so far since getting the VV on Sept. 1st. |

| I've had the gas smell for some time and I'm just too dang lazy to go get it taken care of. With that said I went for a few hundred mile ride with the Mrs this past weekend. We stopped for gas and she needed a drink. I pulled in front of the store after filling up and we started talking as we decided a quick break was in order. I noticed a little gas dripping and then a lot of gas pouring off the bike. Some was coming out the overflow but a lot more running out of the fill neck past the gas cap and out under the right aluminum cowl. Needless to say I pulled the cap quick and found the gas all the way at the top of the fill neck. Figured it must have expanded due to engine heat but it was a first time for this. Guess I'll get the dealer to order me up a new gas cap as I don't want a repeat of this spill. |

I found that the replacement cap was a temp fix. When that started to spill gas I looked and the filler neck was really misshaped so I got the new tank- All under warranty. |

Necktie, this was the same experience I had.
Like you, Victory replaced the tank under warranty and I've never had a problem since. |
