I am new to the VV world we have had mine for a few months now and have been looking for a laydown license plate bracket since before I made my purchase. I have contacted Arlen Ness a couple of times, but my calls and e-mails go un-answered and well I see that others have never found a solution either so I finally sat down today and made my own.

Here are the results. I ordered a LED frame this afternoon so I will post another pick when I get that on for now I just put a chrome HD one on for a mock up.

Let me know what you think... Oh and yea I know the bike is filthy.

Here is the straight Arlen Ness license plate bracket I have on my Vision, SKU: V-2031 $119.95.
I just added a photo of the 10th Vision that Arlen had in Daytona to my gallery.
It had a lay down plate that he said was available from his shop.
Not sure of the number but he said it was available then.
I will ask my dealer tomorow if he can get me a number.

Yea I knew of the straight on from Arlen, but just don't like the looks of it. My dealer couldn't find the part, but I don't think he looked very hard. I have looked all over, sent Arlen's Customer Support e-mails and left VM's as they don't answer the phone I just gave up. Mine cost me 20 bucks in materials. Also the one I did sits lower and shorter on the rear fender then the one he has on his custom VV so I don't have to take off the plate when I take the truck on and off.

jskwarek,

Thank you very much for documenting the lay down license bracket. This is the best license plate frame that I have seen for the Vision.

Did you start with the stock frame and modify it?

Thanks again and Ride Safe.

Please share if you do find it out. I have been thinking of doing the same thing with mine.

Correction to my previous post... I did know about the straight license plate frame and look at them up close it is the lay down part that I couldn't find.

RadioTeacher,
Yes I started with the stock bracket. I thought I was going to have to make one from scratch but when I got started it was easier just to modify the stock one. Now that I have the first one done, I think I can make a block that mounts to the bike that will allow me to use any after market frame, I am going to start playing with that as well.

jeff, how well does it illuminate with the plate light? In Va we have to have a lighted plate and it seems it would block the light.

Blocks the light totally, we have to have the same thing here in Texas. I ordered a black poweder coated license plate frame online that has a built in LED strip that I will use for a plate light and will will tap into the existing license plate light for wiring since I am centered above it. That is the next step and in my opinion was the easy part.

our local bike shop has license plate bolts with an led that is focused to spread light across the plate. A couple of them would work great. I use them on a chopper I built for my wife. Very bright!

Yea I have them on my custom road king behind a french tail light box and they work good, but they have have a long post and I had to get a license plate frame anyway and found a nice black powder coated one with a light built in so we will see how that turns out. If all else fails that is by back up plan.

Based on the pics it still looks like it would be up in the nose bleed section and that is the problem I wanted to solve. Got any pictures installed on your bike?

Yes it is a direct bolt on replacement. I do not have any pictures of it yet... True it is not a lay daown bracket but it looks a whole lot better then the stock tin.
