Man you guys sure do like to polarize things to one extreme or the other! It's not an either or proposition. I have never given up the opportunity to ride so I could clean. It will never happen. Just because someone is responsible with the care they give their bike hardly means they don't ride as often or as hard as anyone. To say one doesn't have 5 or 10 minutes every few days to do a brief cleaning/inspection is a load of crap. What it is, is a choice not to. And that's fine, but let's not try to blow smoke and say it's because you prefer to ride and are somehow more hardcore than someone who does spend a few minutes every few days to clean/inspect. There are those "show" types out there but the only ones bringing those posers up are the advocates of the "I'm too busy riding so I opt not to clean" types.

I will happily give up 5 to 10 minutes of sleep, or drinking a beer, or sitting on the couch watching TV, or just about anything else other than riding to care for what I depend on so much. So if you're too lazy or just don't care.......kudos to you! It's your choice, your money, and your life. IMO, it's just as bad as not checking your tire inflation.

To be honest, I could respect the guy who just says, "f*** it, I don't care." a hell of a lot more than someone who says, "Gosh, I just don't have time cause I spend every second of my time riding."

To each his own, but let's just call a spade a spade!

The time spent on this thread alone would have been more than enough time for a basic cleaning/inspection. Unless he's typing from a PDA while riding of course.

first, sorry if the title was not directly appropriate like the rules and by-law dictate
second, thank you all for all the insults that were not related to my inquiry.
lastly, thank you for all the answer that was beneficial.

never did I say that I never cleaned my bike or pulled maintenance, but some of you found the occassion to drag me down that hole.

my question was directed to those who were in similar circumstances as I with no permanent shelter and their Vision is exposed to the elements, most if not all the time. I will say after nearly 24 months and doing mostly my own regular maintenance it is holding up very well.

Naw, I don't feel a need to dis anyone who doesn't clean their bike, or their car. I understand it's a personal choice, and I choose to ride shiny.

Sorry, didn't intend to offend varider. Just responding to some of the posts here.

All that matters is that you enjoy the ride and keep the rubber side down.

So Cal
I have seen spotless bikes with $5000 paint jobs and my first thought is, You paid 5 grand for that? Im starting to think that these painters are running an iside joke. How many here have the balls to pay $5000 for a paint job and then say, "I hate it"? Do it over! My bike is basic black. It gets cleaned when I have time. When I start my bike the first thing I do is cvheck brakelights and turn signals. I ride every day. I know within 30 sec. if things are not right. If its not right, I stay home. Dirt has never kept me home.

Being a clean freak all my life (Starting with my tricycle, then bicycle, and then cars, pickup trucks, motorbike, big trucks, riding mower…).
I have noticed one thing.
Clean bothers more people then someone else's dirty.

I like dirty!
I would hate it if we all had the same tastes.

Last Sunday I talked to a guy ridding a Harley that I know hasn't been washed in years.
It still ran ok and he was as cool as me!
