Ruskin, Fl | Anybody have their fuel door break? I opened it to get fuel and the plastic tab broke on one side. On the hinged side where the pin goes. It's never been stressed to my knowledge and I got the bike new. I have it removed now and plan on attempting JB Weld before I spend $140 bucks. I'll post some pics when I get done. I plan on grinding some of what little is left and embedding a metal washer in the epoxy for added strenth.

| check the web there is some great plastic glues out there. I do think the plastic dry out is why they brake

Ruskin, Fl | Thanks Johnny. I have fixed the latch on the glovebox door on two different bikes with great success. I have an ingenious idea to reinforce the fuel door repair. I'll take pics. |

Davenport, IA | Well, mine broke as well last week on a long trip. Couldn't get the fuel door open. On the underside of the fairing, the tab broke, not allowing door to open when key is turned counterclockwise. Had to do some disassembling to fuel up, but got it opened. Duct tape was my best friend to secure it down after that. I have not taken it all apart yet, but will soon dive in to see if I can make the repair without buying the expensive piece. |

Ruskin, Fl | I had that happen on my 2008 kmt27. Same thing, pulled into a gas station on fumes and had to take bike apart. It is not the door itself. In my case and probably yours too the tank top has to be replaced. Here is how I fixed mine.

Beer Collins, Colorado (there is no fort) | My fuel door latch failed on tour and I was able to see the cable moving when the key was turned & managed to hook it through the edge of the fuel door with a piece of wire and get it opened up-I've since disabled the locking latch and mounted some very strong neodymium bar magnets that keep the hatch closed and and good push will flip it open. Maybe not as secure but very functional as long as the cover's still attached at the hinges. I looked at repairing the plastic tab that broke and it's a poor design that's gonna fail again. I believed they redesigned this on newer models (mine's an 09). |

Ruskin, Fl | Its redesigned for sure. But on my 2008 it was actually the tank top that broke, the tab that hold the cable sheath from moving. This time the tab on the door broke, where it pivots open. Almost done. Waiting on JB weld to set so I can grind it nice. Pics to follow. |

Lennox, SD | Mine broke 3 years ago after repeated complaints to Victory they replaced it. Originally they would not because it was "cosmetic" damage. Iargued with them because it was poor design on their part. It helps to trash them on social media. |

Sand Rock, AL United States | My latching mechanism is still working after 141,000 miles worth of gassing up, however , one of the hinges broke in 2012. The door has worked properly with one hinge ever since. i am careful when closing the door to hold the key to the left and press the door in place and return key to off position. I think that has been beneficial to the long life of my latch mechanism. I got that bit of information on this site years ago.  |
