Have a pair of the Wiley X photochromatic glasses, but they don't get quite dark enough when in bright sun. Anyone tried these yet, complaints, compliments, comparison. Also, anyone know who makes them (ie where I could get them cheaper?) Thanks!

I bought a pair for my wife and she loves them I agree that darker in the sun would be better but I understand the technology behinh them as i wear transitions lenses in my regular glasses. There is a limit to the range to get them clear in the low light condition they can only get so dark so I guess you trade one thing for another. My wife loves hers and that is all that matters to me . You know if Mama ain't happy no one is happy. Archie

I bought a pair and returned them. They do get dark pretty quick and lighten right back up. The feel was good. Lightweight, etc.
Con for me was they just didn't get dark enough for me. My Oakleys were a little darker. I was still having to squint a little and that was what I was trying to avoid.

Wiley X glasses are all I use. I have tried the Columbia and and Bobber glasses and I didnt like the way they fit on my melon.
not sure of the cost but I order mine with prescription lenses and the cost doesnt kill me.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the feedback. My Wiley X's just don't get dark enough for me. Sounds like the Vision ones aren't that much darker, so I'll just stick with carrying two pairs of glasses. Thanks for the quick responses.

This may sound silly, but I have worn transitions for years. Many (usually people who manufacture them) say it has no affect, and yet Optometrists recommend it all the time and it has worked for me.

If you feel they aren't getting dark enough, put them in the freezer. Not so long as to freeze them, but long enough for them to get real cold. Then try it. Don't know why it works, many say it doesn't just as many say it does. Do your own research as I'm not going to be responsible for YOUR glasses, but it's what I end up doing any time I get a new pair.

The new Scorpion Helmet with the internal flip down visor does a better job then my transition lens anyday. The freezer trick did work for me and made my lenses darker, because it alters the molecules that are embedded on the surface of your lens. The bigger the molecule, the more pigment is exposed = the darker the lens. Id still go for the Scorpion Helmet, its the most comfortable helmet with the best ventilation Ive ever worn in 26 years of bikes.

Any kind of UV treatment (like behind a face shield or inside your vehicle) will hinder photochromatic lenses. I have 4 pair of scripted lenses right now. My Oakley pair is dark tinted for driving, my everyday set are transitions, my work glasses are nothing and I have a pair of transition riding glasses that I bought at Walmart. The Oakley's look sharp (Chip Foose edition with faux brushed aluminum) and they actually match the trim on the Vision. They're really dark but not very comfortable. The Walmart pair are transition riding wear and are more comfortable. They keep more wind out of my eyes and work well at night and in day. Sunset while heading West is a pain regardless of what lenses I wear. I noticed a long time ago that the glasses got darker when it was jacket weather out than they did in the Summer or Fall.

I purchased a pair of HD transitional goggles and it was the best money spent, great protection, no wind in the eyes, and the transition from light to dark occurs quickly that you don't know your lenses have changed...

Wiley X are perfect for my melon. The earpiece bends right next to the helmet and skull and do not cause headaches. I've spent hundreds on booths offering 2 for &20. and they scratch and break so easy that a good pair that you clean with CVS lens cleaners and a hard kit will last you forever. I got the Wiley's that have a changeable lens. The colors are great on the lens and when it starts getting dark, I slip on the clears. Soft earpiece make it ideal. Worth the bucks.
