I have an '08 vision. The rear sprocket is fastened using studs to the rear wheel and the sprocket is attached with nuts. The next time I have the rear tire replaced I was thinking of using bolts to attach the rear sprocket to the wheel as is done in the '09 and later models. My question is will the stock bolts used on the '09 and later models work or are they a different size.
Thanks for any input.

By the way. I have not figured out how to add my profile to the bottom of my post.
Sorry about that.

I thought in 09 they changed how the sprocket connects to the wheel?? This could be verified by looking up the parts online and compare 08 to 09 . I know my 11 is NOT the same as my 08..

I would take a vice grip clamp on stud and unscrew it. Now take the stud to a good bolt place get a good grade bolt and washer.
Now use a thread chaser put a bunch of grease on it to trap metal flakes clean up the old threads clean out with air.
Now with a "drop" of blue lock tight put together tighten to snug then torque like you would a wheel on the car on #1 #3 #5 #2 #4

#1 on on the 2009 is NOT the same as #1 on the 2008 in the parts lists.. on one wheel the bolts is in the wheel and on the other, you screw the bolts into the wheel..

Thanks for the input. Many times I can't get my thoughts across when posing a question. I should have asked is the thread/pitch of the stud on the '08 the same as the bolt on the '09 and newer for attaching the sprocket to the wheel. Johnny, good advice with the grease to get out the crud.

blackpearl,

First, just as an FYI there have been a couple of old post where people have had a very bad day when the rear sprocket come loose while on the road. My best guess is that the cause was putting the nut on backwards. They look like lug nuts, but the tapered side has to face away from the sprocket. Also follow the recommended torque specs.

Second, is it really best to be backing a bolt in and out of the softer metal on the hub, or to take a nut on and off of a hardened metal stud? I don't know, but thought it should be something to think about.

I will add that not having the studs on there would make changing tires a little easier for me.

Thanks to the few who responded. After giving it some more thought I think I will leave it stock.

Think of this every time you pull the bolt out it will take some of the aluminum with it.
You would be better off using new nuts every time with a drop of blue loctite
