After a very long ride 100 miles I stopped for a water break and when I got on the bike to go again. I turn the key and dash lights come on for a second then everything is blank. Won't start!!!! I cycle through the key from on to off still nothing. Then I wait do it again dash comes on I fire it up and I go. It has done this three times but only on really long rides when the bike gets warm. I can drive it around town all week making errands no problem. Not sure if it is the main 40 amp breaker that is getting warm on the long rides and then reseting or if it is the starter switch.

Any Help would be much appreciated......

I have been riding my Harley for 10 years and never have seen the weird shit that these Victorys seem to suffer from.

So that being said, the one common reply to most electrical issues has been to check the battery terminals to make sure they are tight. The breaker so far has different symptoms reported, but I would not rule it out either.

Good luck, electrical problem are a bitch to deal with.

Well I took the battery out. We can all see the battery in the front of the bike but to take it out......, 21 bolts later, now I can remove it. Brought it to our local battery shop and they determined that the battery was strong and could start a car. So I removed the 40 amp breaker behind the battery and replaced with a new one from Lordco. (similar to NAPA) It is a $9.00 fuse. I also sprayed some WD-40 on the key switch because of the recommendation from johnnyvision. I wont know if I have solved this issue until I go on a long ride again with freeway speeds (120km/h) that will get me to a similar situation as before. Wish me luck all you Vision Riders.

21 bolts??? What all did you take off? It only requires the removal of 6 or 7 bolts and the belly pan to change the battery. The battery tray then tilts forward and comes completely out and you can easily replace the battery.

The new circuit breaker will probably do the trick.

rdbudd I saw the witchdoctor video and he first took off the belly pan and than took off the two front shields so the battery clamp can swing open.

I have never found it necessary to take the two front shields off. Just the belly pan. You can then tilt the battery tray forward and then lift it up and free of the frame. Then, you just lower it down through where the belly pan was. It's easy. Putting it back is just as easy. Just lift it up, locate the two tabs into the frame notches, tilt it back and put the retaining bolt in. There is no reason to remove the two front shields, at least not on my 2008.

I've never seen the video you are describing.

Thanks for the quick tip. That would save a lot of time, next time I change out a battery. Although the video was very well done by the witchdoctor staff.

Well, I watched the video. He sure went through a lot of unnecessary work removing those two front trim pieces.

As you can see in the video, the battery box has two tabs that fit into notches in the frame, and allows the battery to tilt forward. This allows the box and battery to be lifted clear of the frame once the cables are disconnected and the retaining bolt removed. The battery will tilt forward far enough with the two trim pieces still in place. Just lift it free, drop it down and out, using one hand above the trim pieces and one hand below them. Replace the battery in the box, then lift them together back into place and reconnect. Done.
