Anyone replace their head pipe exhaust gaskets? I imagine you need to remove the mufflers to give the head pipes wiggle room. I plan on replacing the studs during the procedure. thnx.....

WHY
I was getting some popping and found my flange bolts loose. So I tightened them up went for ride came home and re tightened them. Had to do it 3 times before they sealed.

Yes your going to have to loosen mufflers and crossover pipe. A lot of work.

I'm getting popping as well; right after I brought it back from the Stealer to have the front drive sprocket seal replaced. Haven't investigated it yet; only pops when I am letting off the throttle and pulling in the clutch; to shift into the next higher gear. Pops once.

Popping is not harmful though... just irritating.

Now however; on my DR650... it pops like a popcorn machine when I downshift and use the engine as a brake. Wonderful sound with it's DG aftermarket muffler.... Woot!

Thanks for the responses gents...

I got under the bike with a flashlight to survey the job at hand and found black soot from an exhaust leak near the clamp/junction pipe that turns 90 degrees into the left muffler just past the crossover. I may have over tightened the stock clamp causing a V dimple in the inner pipe when I modified my mufflers a few years back. That may be the cause of my popping when upshifting.
