I have a 2008 Victory Vision with 1600 miles on it and yesterday I noticed a chirping sound coming from the engine that seems to get quieter as the bike warms up but it is still there!!! Any ideas what it could be???

Do you notice it when the bike is sitting at idle, or when it's moving? If at idle, I don't think there's any way it can be the belt.

The term "chirping" is most commonly associated with the sound the final drive belt makes when it is not adjusted properly. Get on all fours behind the bike, and look at the position of the belt on the rear pulley. If it is not centered, and is riding along wither the left or right edge of the pulley, then the belt needs adjustment, and most likely once that is completed, the chirping noise will go away.

If it is the belt adjustment, you will notice the chirping more when the bike and belt are "cold", and will notice it more under acceleration, and less so at a steady speed or under deceleration. A number of us on this forum have experienced the chirping sound, and if you do a search for "belt chirping", you can read about others experiences.

Regarding your chirping sound,I have 1100 mi. on my vision. No chirping sound.I noticed that my belt is to the outside of the pulley on my bike.My dealer told me that this is normal for the belt to be near the outside edge of the pulley, and if you adjust it,it will only return to that position.
Has anyone been told this by their dealer?I find it hard to believe that the belt can't be centered.

I don't think that it's associated with the centering of the belt. In my case, the belt was actually rubbing the guard from being loose. I've just had it tensioned and it's doing it again constantly. I've been told that they might have to replace the rear drive but that makes no sense to me, since the rear drive does not change diameter. It does it regardless of wether its warm or cold and it's really annoying. I can hear it over the st.1 lvl. 2 exhaust and interstate/freeway traffic constantly (under load). I'm getting very sick of it and I don't buy that driving around on a belt that's constantly losing tension is safe. I'm wondering if this is a problem across the Victory models or if it's Vision Specific. Because I've talked to 3 dealerships and all 3 have mentioned that they've seen recurring problems with this on the Vision (Tulsa, Flagstaff and Centerville), I'm assuming its Vision specific. I'd like to trend this and get Victory involved with a real solution. Any ideas, specifically ones that can avoid posts about someone's old Pinto or anything equally worthless would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Will

wjoel, point blank, your dealer is wrong, once aligned it will move off that edge and make the chirp sound go away, and stay away.

Well, it is a problem, if they or you will align, I bet cash it will disappear for a long time. I had the same EXACT problem.

No pintos were involved in this typing, however, this is a line of worthless information.

Need to be a bit more clear on the amont the belt may or may not move off of that edge. Many of the Visions I service have the belt right on the outside edge when setting static. Mind you it is not hard against the edge. I have only had ONE Vision that i had belt noise problems with. My alignment proceedure is as follows when i have a belt noise problem, Bike on lift and secured, scissor jack to lift rear wheel free of lift. After adjusting belt per specification and using the sonic belt tension meter i will start the bike, engage second gear and watch the belt for alignment with no load. Accelerate the engine a few times while applying some pressure with rear brake to check for chirping under load. After all of this, i take it out for a test ride for final inspection. I have only had one that is a real pain and his bike has a minor chirp for the first 1/2 mile when cold and then can never get it to chirp again. He is to keep me informed on anymore problems and mileage with his belt. As for replacing the rear drive, i think the dealer in question may suspect a pulley that is not machined square, then you would never be able to align that pulley with out damaging the belt or causing sever handling/tracking issue when riding.

Hmmm. I have wear marks on the outside of the belt where its rubbing somthing. My belt was off center, riding in the left edge when I bought it and it didn't make any noise. I don't know where its going to be riding today but I'll check. If I had to guess, I'd bet that if kinda float back and forth when it tracks. I dunno.
