I have done a few searches and it looks like the reviews are mixed... does it make a difference on the performance? and is it a big seat of the pants difference?

I can only address my specific situation. When I had my cams installed, there was a noticeable lack of bottom end torque, from about 3k RPM and lower. This was evidenced when I ran 5 and 6th gear roll ons against my friend's 09 Vision that did not have cams. I installed the adjustable intake with the smaller diameter insert ( I think it's the 43mm tubes ) and noticed an improvement, but still not quite back to being able to keep up with my friend's stock '09 up to 3krpm. But, again, it was a noticeable improvement!!! I can't say what effect it will have with the sock cams.

Thanks Turk, I am on the fence about buying the intake and just wanted to know what people have found as results.

Depending on what your after. When was at lloydz we'd is used my cruising rpm and like what Turk had I wanted easy roll on at 2800 which is about what I'm riding every day as a commuter. My gaol was met with the variable installed, ATS, PCV and lloydz filter. No you don't drop the motor. Pull the lloydz filter and drop it in. There is a noticeable increase in intake noise but I have found the Ness Honkers muffles it. Lol. I also get cramps in my jaw from smiling too much every time I light it up. Did not do the cams but if/when they come he said will still provide better air delivery across the band. All about the Venturi effect right? I'm glad I added it as all I had done was the PCV replacing the VFCIII and Dyno tune and I like it. 92hp 115 torque at the wheel.

It sounds like it is a plus for the low end torque, does it effect the top end?

Again I would say based on how it was explained to me by Lloyd yes BUT top end is cams so spend the money on them. There is no one component. For me cruising every day at 65 -70 in 6th it delivers at the 2500-2800-3000 rpm like you read about. I would have to believe it provides improved air flow all the way through. I'm not saying PCV and the variable go together but that might be a question to ask as well. Your VFCIII may do it fine. Are you going to Dyno if installed? All I can say is after it was installed, I had the VFCIII replaced and dynoed. That was it. Totally different bike. Was it due a lot to the variable? Not sure but I can't believe upgrading the VFCIII did that much coupled with the Dyno. Since you got cams, I would really be interested in getting your feed back if you do it. Keep us posted.

Thanks Tims, My top end is great with the mods I have and I was just checking to see if it has changed anything at the top for the gain in the mid range and from what I have seen it seems to not be the case.
I saw a dyno chart and it looks like the bike gained all the way through the chart. Also the gains looked to be very good.

No problem Dwight. I was on the fence about cams based on how I am riding day in and day out. As mentioned, 2500-2800 is my cruise range and accelerating in 6th with authority is great. Needing to use 5th is a thing of the past so it did it's job. From what Lloyd explained to me that it would also fill that small torque difference at the low end should I put the cams in so I would eventually have the cruise response at the 2500-2800 and the known sweetness of the cam upgrade. Plus it fit my budget because I actually wound up at lloydz just riding up with a buddy. No work intended. Lol. I'm pretty much sold on adding the cams feeling confident the variable intake combine will perform even be tater at the lower rpms. My concern is messing with what I know works and if the vision was my recreational rider I wouldn't hesitate. But as a daily year round and my track record of trying to make things better. Not100%,lol I was nervous.

If you install it, I'm sure Lloyd has a new set of numbers for your VFC unless your thinking PCV too. What sold me on the combo was the difference between the front and rear cans AF mix. As much as 20% and not just on my bike but the next one on the Dyno as well. Lloyd said 10-15 is not uncommon. So that is the other half of the puzzle I think I fixed IMHO. I know this, on the test ride after adding the variable, the upgrade of the PCV from the VFC and Dyno, the front end came off the ground and scared the beejeezus out of me. So after my ramble I am sold on adding the variable intake as long as the sound of those cans gulping air doesn't offend you. Hehehe.
