I have a 09 Vision with close to 60K miles.

The service manual says to change the fuel filter at 50K, but from what I understand, you have to replace the entire fuel pump AND filter which Ma' Vic wants $380 for thsi besides taking half the Vision apart to get to it.

Has anyone done this yet? If so, how bad is it to do and about how long did it take??

from what I see in parts catalog there is no filter. I know Rylan at The Vic Shops rebuilds pumps but not 08 there a bastard pump.
From what I see you pull the right hand dash and fuel door and pump is right there. Six screws I believe. It lifts out

I wish it was as simple as Johnny just described, but it's not. The radio and associated center panel is the first to come off, then the chrome bezel around the instruments pops off. After that the right speaker and turn signal come off, as well as the lower fairing on the right side, and the trim/ panel which contains the fuel door. I may have missed a few things but when I had to take my pump out to replace my sending unit float I was at it for the better part of a day and I'm a pretty competent wrench. If you want to tackle this yourself (and you can if you take your time) download the pdf of the service manual. It can be found on the forum here, and familiarize yourself with whats required first. These bikes aren't nearly as complicated they seem, I'm sure you can get it.
I'll look for the pics I took of my bike all torn down for the pump repair.

Uh, ride it until it dies. There is no filter to replace and what is there will not need to replace, it's a brass mesh the prevents junk getting in. IMHO the manual is wrong.

The fuel filter is actually one of the white fabric type filters. If you go to Rylan's face book page, he's the Vic shop guy, you will see one. He says the filters on the 09 and newer bikes have a smaller filter than the 08 bikes.
Here is the link to Rylan's facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The-Vic-Shop/149909745069440

Sorry, I guess the later bikes are different, I've got my old pump and there is a brass mesh, that's all. No filter...

here is what Rylan was showing and I looked at the visions from to and see no fuel filter listed. Am guessing out tank is not big enough for one

Here is the text from the service manual page 73.
And a photo of the fuel filter coming out of the tank also from the service manual.
