| I put a ride together a few weeks back with a couple good buddies. Trip left out of Greenville, SC and went up through GA, TN, and NC. The last rider in our group was on a HD Road King Classic and unfortunately was unable to avoid the dog running in front of him in a turn. He finished the weekend out on the back of my Vision (my wife gave up her seat and sadly had to ride on the back of another RK ). Apart from a small hip fracture, road-rash on his arm, and lots of bruising he healed just fine. The bike was totaled!

| I hit a dog 2 summers ago and did over $3,200 damage to my 2008 Vision. It was out in the country and the owner allowed his dogs to run loose. The dog was 14 years old def and blind. His home owners insurance didn't like hearing all this and he especially didn't like it when I told him the owner was still allowing his remaining dog to run loose after I hit the first one. The accident happened at 5:30 am. |

Georgia, west of Atlanta | That is one of the dangers of the road. It's crazy how different circumstances turn out. I hit a maybe 45 lb pitbull going 85mph on I-5 in California last year. He hit the right front fork leg then the forward tipover protector. The dog basically blew apart and it was over in a milli second. I was thanking God for 20 miles after that. Only thing it did to bike was rub some powdercoat off the tip over protector. In fact there was still some hair stuck in the metal at the next gas stop. |

Westchester Co., NY | Not much you can do if a dog shows up out of no where. But if you are in an open area and see a dog coming just remember that dogs are excellent at figuring out a trajectory to intercept you at your given speed. So maintain your speed for as long as you can and then suddenly accelerate. The dogs trajectory will now be off and the dog behind you. |

| I learnt all about the dangers of dogs and how best to avoid them when I did my MSF safety class. It is very correct about how we as riders can throw a dog off it's ability to chase us down by speeding up as late as possible before the dog gets to you. I've had to put this into practice twice and it worked in my favor both times! |

Perry Hall, MD | Safety class instructor added that dogs can fall into either of the two categories of animals you might experience - Squishable and Non-Squishable. Looked like the one going down the side of the road was in between, but with time to consider it probably closer to squishable. |

East TN | WOW! glad he's OK...Very rare to see dogs up there...I see Deer and Turkey but never remember seeing a dog...Live about 45 minutes from the skyway! |

The closest I have come was when I hit a coyote when my pickup was doing about 60 MPH. I never did repair the minor damage to the front of my S-10.

Crazy thing was the poor ole dog ran out of in front of a 18 wheeler I was passing on the left, That's why I didn't see it till almost impact time. I had about 1/10th of a second to think about it, I wasn't sure he was gonna hit then he lurched and BANG it was over......All I can say is it wasn't my time to go........
