Ontario Canada | I own a 2012 Cross Country Tour and find that my belt buckle and or coat zipper are very close to the gas tank. I am concerned that I am going to scratch the paint.
I would like to put on a tank bra but cannot find any one that makes one.
Does any one know of such a company.

Prairie City, IA United States | There is a fairly easy fix to the problem. If your bike is black go to Wally World and buy some cling on windshield tint, cut it to size and install. Another way that we have done it is with clear 3M film that you can buy of the Internet. Both are invisible and stop the dreaded scratching of the paint.
We looked for a bra and couldn't find anything. |

Fountain Inn, SC United States | The "bras" require you to keep the tank surface clean whenever to install it so as not to scratch the paint you're trying to protect. You also have to remove it if it gets wet (like riding in rain). The 3M laminate requires you to only have the surface clean before you apply it. It's nearly invisible once applied and you never have to take it off.

Manchester, CT | I have a request/idea. I too am looking to use the 3M protective film to protect the inside fairing behind the brake pedal area on 13' Vision. I am going to make a pattern first so the final results has a nice finished look versus a patch job. Once I create the pattern and install the film, I will share the pattern on the forum.
It would be great if others that are covering various components on their bikes with film, carbon fiber etc, share the patterns they create.

| How to install 3M film. You need two spray bottles walmart, rubber squeeze auto store, rubbing alcohol and dish soap. I used computer printing paper for pattern. ?Fill one spray bottle with the rubbing alcohol maybe half full Fill one bottle with 50/50 dish soap and warm water. Now take film peal off protective side and watch out you don't leave finger prints. Razor blade works good for separating the two. ?Spray glue side with the rubbing alcohol real good. Now spray a heavy amount of the soap water on the paint lay film on and spray with soap water now with squeeze work out air bubbles PAT dry with soft cloth. A hair dryer heating up film will remove it not reusable |

Central Illinois | An observation. Patterns on line never work for a very simple reason, our screens do not always have the same proportions using the screen resolutions, as each other, the scanner used to produce the image will not necessarily look right even on your own screen and of course printers do not always reproduce the proportions that match what you see on your screen. With that many possible error points, no template is ever right for someone else. Certainly not close enough to be used without close checking. |
