Ruskin, Fl | Any ideas on this beside a trip to the dealer? The reception on my new 2013 was outstanding. Like I said, was, until today. No AM and crappy FM reception. I pulled the access panel and found this coax had come undone. I cannot thread it back together without taking some stuff apart. I thought I would just pull the turn signal. Does this require removing the leg fairing and lower fairing first? If that's the case I'll let the dealer do it.

| Yes i think the leg will have to come off. The turn signal has 4 bolts. 2 Button heads one on each end then there are 2 10mm on the bottom side of signal.
Maybe small hands. Pull dash and counsel un-plug antenna that will give you more length to hook it up. Put back together

Ruskin, Fl | Thanks. The part that turns of course is the half behind the fuse block. I was able to push them together, but not start the thread. I let the dealer do it. If that's the biggest problem I have I'll take it. Lol. |

| Leg fairing does not need to come off for turn signal removal. But, speaker grill, speaker, mirror, and speaker volume (the speaker box) do need to come out to get room to get to all the screws securing the turn signal lens.

Ruskin, Fl | Thanks Turk. The speaker box was the main thing in my way. I was able to move it out of the way enough by pulling the windshield and dash cover. I threaded it together and got an 8 and 10 mm open end on it and snugged it up. Radio works fine again.
Wish I had the new speakers to put in while I was at it.

Ruskin, Fl | Yes. The antenna is attached to the underside of the access panel, same as the '08. The weatherproof connector looks the same also. About 4 inches the othe direction was the metal threaded coaxial connector. That's what came loose. It's between the fuse block and the speaker enclosure. Not sure if the '08 has that.

Yes. Being behind metal is not doing it any favors, but that's where they put it.
For you 08 and 09 owners, I am having very good luck with this antenna mod. It was well worth my effort.

Thanks Michael I've experienced the same reception loss on my '13. Great for a couple of months, now very poor; depending on the orientation of the bike. Can you clarify which access panel you pulled off and where you're seeing the connection? The front panel below the windshield? TIA |

I never bother with the FM on my '12 Vision (although I might if I got better reception) but I got thinking anyway. Alot of the newer vehicles use a "shark fin", ultra low profile antenna. It's not invisible but certainly less noticable than the normally seen mast antenna. I wonder how one of those would work? There are some relatively inexpensive shark fin antennas out there. Central Illinois | Be very careful pulling the front panel under the windshield. The first time I did that I pulled the connector loose from my antenna. The FM radio reception went from just fine to POS. What had happened was the lead going to the antenna was quite short and the antenna was mounted directly on that piece of plastic I had removed. Just normal effort to remove it from its push pins had torn the connection loose. I soldered in a foot long piece of thin, 22 ga, wire so that I had room to work in the future and the radio reception became better than ever. The owner's manual tells you to disconnect that antenna connection but fails to tell you that the connector is so short it will be hard to even reach it without tearing it loose. Your hand will barely fit in the gap to reach the connector. My expectations were different, hence the damage I did. |

Peru, IN | Be very careful pulling the front panel under the windshield....piece of plastic... I'm pretty sure the access panel is aluminum. It's definitely NOT plastic. You can bend it.

Madison/Huntsville, AL | Ya, the panel that pops off and has the antenna stuck to it is some kind of metal. That's why the antenna is stuck to it no doubt. A little white plastic disconnect is handily located in there; at least on mine it is. This makes it simple to remove the panel completely from the bike and work on stuff in there.
BUT, it's the plug/connector in the photos at the top of this thread that I'm inquiring about. Where is that fuse box? Under what panel? |

Central Illinois | <p>Fuses and relays are under that same panel. There are covers over them on my '13. Each side has its own small cover over the set of relays and fuses. I had to pull the one on the rigt side to install the DigitalGuardDog 4V module.</p>
