OK, I just got my lighted trunk emblem installed, so I thought I would share a couple of things to do and NOT to do!

  • First, when removing the hinges from the trunk lid, I noticed 2 of the bolts were difficult to remove because the nuts underneath were spinning too! Not good. So, when I disassembled the trunk I used a little JB Weld on the nuts... see photo 1. Worked like a charm. No more moving nuts and reassembly went well, at least this part...
  • A word of caution, don't over-tighten the screws into plastic.  I'll explain.  When mounting the lighted trunk emblem into the trunk lid, one of the corners didn't line up great, probably good old Victory fit and finish issue.  So I tighten it more to draw the corner in and wind up stripping the plastic anchor hole.  No problem, JB Weld this too!  Works every time and it will be strong enough, just sets me back 24 hours for cure time.  (I didn't have JB Quick with me).  OK, so next day, I have to take a 1/8" bit and carefully drill a pilot hole for the screw...  SHIT! Unfortunately, I was using an extremely sharp bit and it cut through the outside & through the chrome!  Now I have a hole in my chrome!  See photo 2.  I got the project finished & the JB Weld did its job, but now what to do.

I have made a post on theVMC about the new Victory logo.  If they make one available as a badge or the like, I will adhere it to the chrome.  If not, I will manufacture one myself out of wax, have my dental lab cast it for me and I will have a 1-Off!

looks nice, small, but nice. The lighted part looks really good too!

You do have a good idea to put a small badge of the new logo over it...

Just a guess, but could you get a few Vic hat/vest pins and grind off the posts, then JB Weld them to either side of the lighted area (for symmetrical purposes) and cover the hole in the process.

I had the exact same threads pull out when i installed mine; sounds like a mfg defect. The plastic threads pulled out as though they are actually a separate piece of plastic that wasn't secured properly, sort of like a plastic helicoil in a smooth bore. I ended up cutting down a larger diameter sheet metal screw to fit the hole and it's still holding after a couple of thousand miles.

God I love that Glacier or Ice Blue of that model year! I still like
my Super Steel Gray with the metalflake as well.

Oh, and I like your lighted trunk emblem. (o:

I just installed It on mine. Yup the threads pulled in a breath out of the emblem I considerd plastic weld but went with a longer sheet metal screw on both sides. Victory either needs to give longer screws with the part or make the bosses longer on the emblem. The shape of the inside of the emblem has no clearance with the inner trunk surface. Other than that I love the new addition to the bike it really should be standard equipment so vic installes it .
