jb.hatch - 2012-07-28 9:34 PM Its my understanding is you want the rivets loose, so that the rotor floats, I learned that when I thought I had bad rotors on my TC, I did what I was told, , free up the rivets by soaking them with a cleaner, and giving them a tap to get the crud loose. I Worked on my TC.

I don't think you want this though...

How did you fix it? Rotor buttons or new roter?

New rotor, under warranty.

I don't want to take this off topic, but I have a problem that could be related to this. I just had my bike painted and had the lower parts of the rotor painted as well. The other day I lost a front top caliper bolt. Just fell out on a ride. Talk about a shaky, wet your pants ride back home! The best part now is trying to find a metric fine thread bolt. No Polaris or Vision dealers in a 100 mile radius have the bolt and claim it will take weeks to get. I was able to find a place out here that specializes in Metric bolts. They claim to have them machined for them out of stainless, so I will be picking them up this afternoon. The point is, my rotor DOES NOT float. Could this have been what loosened up all of my caliper bolts? When I put the bike back together, I lock tighted each bolt and torqued to the proper range. The other three were loose, but not loose enough to come out like the first one. BTW, if you here a clunking sound in the front end when hitting bumps, could be a loose caliper as well.

Hardware stores carry metric bolts.
Floating rotors really don't move but more then a mm. When you apply the breaks the caliper centers its self between the break pads.
Your rotors are more then likely just fine

I wanted to follow up on this post. I did some work on the bike this weekend, and using a dial indicator on the front rotors, the front right rotor is 0.068 out of true, and the left is 0.003 (pretty close to perfect). The 0.068 deflection rises slowly, but drops quickly, coinciding with the rapid shifting of the caliper.

New rotor is on order.

Thank you to everyone that responded, I appreciate it.

Glad you found the culprit. I'm curious as to possible damage during a tire change like dropping it hard. Or, is there any signs of bluing from heat build-up. One last question, where's the best seafood in your area?

There is no bluing, but, will take a better look once I have it off, spiffy paperweight at that point.

Best seafood, mmmmmm, are you visiting the area?

Opinions vary, a restaurant in Broomes Island, called Stoneys has long been the legendary king of the crabcake. They now own about four restaurants in the Calvert County area. A couple of their locations have great water views.

Newer entry in the category is a small place called Jerry's, just south of Prince Frederick on the South Bound lanes of route 4. Everyone that goes to Jerry's just really raves about it. The place is not much to look at, the end unit next to a multi bay tire dealer, but the atmosphere is raved about. (My wife and gf ate there two weeks ago and loved it)

If you have a specific area you are riding to/through, I can inquire.

I have an email into a friend that had a recommendation in the Annapolis area, I believe the restaurant was named, Edgewater Restaurant in Mayo, MD.

(BTW - can't personally recommend any of them, I don't really care for seafood, but, EVERYONE else in the area recommends these places.

Thanks Dave. I roll that way every now and again. I'd like to take my wife up that way for an overnighter, or a long day trip, long for her anyways. I'm curious, but did you, the wife and gf ate a Jerry's together, or at seperate occassions???
