So... I spent the better part of the afternoon trying to get my drive belt to ride in the center of the rear pulley; with the correct 32mm deflection. Ultimately, I was successful but what I saw, I didn't like. So I returned the drive belt configuration to the way it was (riding on the right inner edge of the rear pulley). Here's why:

In order to get the drive belt to ride in the middle of the rear pulley, I had to move my left rear adjuster to a point where the forward axle plate mark was indexed on the left side swing arm mark. And the right side center axle plate mark was indexed on the right side swing arm mark

This made for a very cockeyed looking axle in the swingarm, but the belt did track true in the center of the pulley. In order to get it to ride on the inner left edge of the pulley. I would have had to move the right side axle towards the front of the bike even more; increasing the cockeyed appearance of the axle. No way Jose...

What is interesting is the 2011 owners manual makes no mention at all of trying to center the drive belt in the pulley; it only (explicitly says on page 65) that the axle plate marks to reference mark alignment must be the same on both sides.

However, the 2008 shop manual goes into further detail about what I was trying to do initially.

So... did something change with the actual swingarm/axle/adjustment/pulley of later model Visions; regarding the belt alignment procedure? Changed to the point whereas Victory no longer wants one to try to adjust the belt tracking in the manner that the 2008 shop manual dictates?

My belt never chirped or made noise; seems to be working well as it rides the inside outer right edge of the rear pulley. I had assumed that it should be running in the center of the rear pulley to be completely correct; but now I am doubting that requirement.

Thoughts?

I hope the hole time you were rolling the tire forward. I miked my belt and found it varied by 20 thousands. So at one point I was fine and another I was going bald.
I started using paraffin wax or caning wax or you could even use a candle. Paraffin wax you can get at the store for $ 2.95 a life time supply. It has stop my chirp for over 2 thousand miles. Yes there will be guys telling us how they use some spray on lube. Well lube will gather dust and dirt and that in turn will cut the belt or cause edge wear.

Bottom line Vic has gates make the belts to wide.

Here is the alignment procedure from the tech ref manual

Proper alignment is NOT when the belt is centered in the pulley, contrary to what many may think.
