Today I was using my Harbour Freight motorcycle jack to lift my Nessy and like before, I slid it under the engine and got down on my knees to make sure it was positioned properly, when all of a sudden I discovered that there are two lift points on the front part of the engine.  Perhaps you Vision Veterans knew this but I sure didn't.  With a simple relocating of my jack to be under these points, Nessy was up off the ground squarely and stable.  Here is a picture of the arm of the jack and the two points resting happily.  I didn't find mention of these two points in the owners manual nor when I searched this forum.  BTW, the Harbour Freight lift works great!  Both wheels were off the ground in perfect balance.

Which Harbor Freight Jack do you have? I have some body work to do and a jack would be nice.

Is it the one pictured below?

It is a one person job. I simply push the jack under the bike and since my 8ball is lower i upright the bike slide the jack in further and start pumping the jack and she goes right up.

Yep, one person can do it.  The rear part of the motor is kinda rounded on the bottom so it sits on the mid point area... I could have taken some pics but didn't as it was stable thanks to the front points.

Thanks, I will give it a try soon as it will make it much easier to clean the rear wheel than laying these 72yr old bones on the ground......

I lay mine on the tip overs. I have 2 peices of plywood, about 8" square that I lay down first. Works GREAT for cleaning the lower chrome, and wheels.

Do you guys lay the bike over on the tip overs, with a full tank of gas? Does any of the gas seep out; via the vent tubes?

Harbor Freight offers a steel and aluminum jack . I have the yellow steel one and it works great . Haven't used it with the trunk on yet .My wrench told me to add a thick belt in a U shape under the engine which would make it even more stable . When i get around to adding it i will post pic's .

To answer willtill's ? I lay mine over with no seapage ....

I have the steel Harbor Freight Jack above. I have the Vision Tour (with trunk). Putting the Vision on the jack using the front bumps of the motor mount places the Center of Gravity (CG) only a few inches in front of the rear of the jack. So you have to place something under the rear tire. I used a cinder block and then lowered the jack to its locking point.

Pros: The Jack works. $70 + $20 more for a no questions asked return for 2 years.

Cons: It is difficult to slowly descend. Coming down in small steps was the best I could do for control. CG of a Vision Tour is close to the rear of the jack making the quite tippy to the rear. You must block up the rear tire for stability.

Next I am getting a skid plate to see if I can move the jack further back to center up the jack on the CG.

Ride Safe!

I use a jack stand under the swing arm, works great for me. Works great for cleaning the rear wheel too. It can be lowered slowly but it takes practice.

kris1956,

I will look into positioning the jack further back on the swing arm. Thanks.

How do you practice lowering the jack? I guess I could practice by using the jack on my truck. I was thinking of putting a heavy spring under the release lever.

Mine has two methods of lowering.  If you press the relase pedal slightly it drops quicky (counter intuitive!) and if you press it quickly it goes down slower.  For me, I make sure my handlebars are turned left and my kickstand is down.  Then I tromp (technical word ) on the release pedal and the bike goes down.  Now, the slow speed is still fast so having the handlebars and kickstand ready are a must.

BTW, since I do not have a trunk the bike has a perfect balance once on the lift points and jacked up.  I could imagine, as mentioned, that those that have the trunk would find it heavier in the rear.

Be safe...

I use that jack when I work on cars. its great for lifting one side. I've used it so much I guess it's experience. That and I spend 30 years in the car business.

For anyone laying the bike over on the tipovers beware that repeated lifting on the handlebars will damage the bushings causing the bars to have noticeable play in them.

Thanks for pointing them out, I didn't even see them since I have blocks of wood under there to cushion the crankcase.

Its nice cleaning the wheels like this.

You must use a "host" such as Ipernity.com.  Then you give the link ("post image url" in the picture box) within the post.  If you right click on the image below and look under properties you'll see my ipernity host URL.  This is what I posted in the picture box here.

Hope this helps you.  -Jeff (aka JS5Owner)

Thnaks JS5.

Ok, I signed up with ipernity and upload my logo and the picture I wanted to post.

Now I will try it, I am not sure in what order I do things or how & when does ipernity come into play ??

I will quick try it.

DANG-IT!!! Can you explain the order in which to do what first ?/

I do not know how to bring ipernity into play ?? nothing will attach.

Whe doesn't this work like most other forums where you just pull a photo out of your pictures in "my documents " ??

Thanks for putting up with me.

Dan
