I just purchased a 2011 8-ball.... I am not a fan of the optional trunk... i would like a passenger back rest and luggage rack similar to what Victory used to sell... that ideally could accomodate my Rev Pack Tour Pack ... i prefer to have a soft bag on the rear - that rests on a luggage rack.. and can easily be removed and carried (which is why i am not a fan of hard trunks) ... but i do recognize the value of the passenger back rest... aside from my dislike of the aesthetic of the Vision Tour with hard trunk.. i chose the 8-ball because of the seat and deep dish contour.. which i find comfortable in and of itself.. but i can not deny ... the ladies like the back rest... if it were left up to the women.. we would all be riding Gold Wings - and they would be comfortable... i was thinking of rigging something up myself... but i am not too handy.. and it would be a one off piece... so i would love to see what you would come up with.. and i have no problem paying for it... after all - $1700 for the trunk? $900 for the backrest and luggage rack? i think Victory should have made their original tail pack to 'fill' in the rear of the motorcycle.. instead of creating a big, sideways 'V' of empty space when looking at the side profile of the bike... i almost think they put the 'V' there to subliminally suggest - "buy Victory" .... but it is odd ... a waste of space... and raises the center of gravity when the bike is loaded - which to me was one of the benefits of this bike over the Harley.... so I say make it low ... and preferably in black (but that is the selfish, 8-ball side of me) ...

To CycleOps:

If no one else wants one I do. I can't believe or understand why Victory saw fit to discontinue the passenger backrest. They still carry the panel for when the tour pack is removed. As far as price is concerned, it was in line with every other over priced accessory they sell. I hope you decide to fabricate one that your luggage racks attach to. I think you'd make a killing, no one else makes one.

Did anything ever happen in regards to a passenger backrest? I bought a 2009 Street, that was still on the showroom floor a month ago and would like a backrest. Wife says she doesn't need it, but I think I need it just for peace of mind when I have the kids on the back.

The Victory backrest was very expensive but it is a quality piece. It is as solid as a rock and very comfortable for the passenger. I really don't know why they killed it..................they already paid to engineer it, build jigs, patterns or whatever. Every one they sell past the start-up cost is $ in the bank. $450 sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but you can't build high quality, low volume parts for free. As much as I hated writing the check for mine I love it and will probably put it on the next Vision I buy.

I went to the new seat- cool leather and it is cooler. The back rest for pass fit in the seat and does adjust - I like this far better than the one the was discontinued

Ok guys, I started this so guess I need to let you know what's what. Since no one else (Cycle Ops, HMD, Etc) is stepping up to the plate, I have talked to a couple of fabricators, custom builders and have a line on one seems willing to duplicate the Vic version, cost unknown. Personally, I am probably going to have mine made by a custom guy if I ever get my new Vision back (See thread "Buyers Remorse. The Vision that couldn't.) Yes, seems there have been complications and Victory and the selling dealer are not getting the complications handled promptly, so as of now I have been without my ride for almost THREE WEEKS!

Here's where I am at.

One - Build a base mounting plate that take the standard HD backrest and pad. You buy the plate, install it and get whatever sissy bar, pad, luggage rack you like. This as everything else in life has advantages and disadvantages.

Two - Build a quick release base that takes a sissy bar made from fat ass 1 inch steel tubing. Quick release as I want a standard bar/pad and rack, but also want to be able to change it out from time to time for just a tall sissy bar..... a-la Easy Rider, again with kick ass massive 1 inch tubing. I might even have mine made with a removable 8-ball at the top. Something that would screw in to allow for other things to be placed there such as a skull, a "finger", a VV emblem of sorts, etc. Might do stainless steel or chrome. Depends on cost and looks. This also seems easiest as rubber grommets are needed for the entry through the panel to allow for cutting intolerances and round ones are easier to get. Much easier!

Since I have an 8 ball I want something sporty, massive and "kewl" ...... I am leaning towards option 2. Regardless of what I end up with I will offer it here and online. Each will be made as the order comes in and custom requests can most likely be handled for an additional charge.

Costs will hopefully be LESS THAN THE VIC prices!!

That's it for me. It will be at least another 30 days before I have anything more as I have to get my bike back for the builder to work on the base plate and before that happens I just want to ride my freaking new Vision! Feel free to PM me with your e-mail addy if you want me to put you on a list of interested people or if you want more info.

I would buy one in a heartbeat.

I like the original design... especially since I own a luggage rack and no backrest

$450 is really too high, but being there's none out there, I'd probably pay it.

Please let me know if you make one. ratpatrol07@yahoo.com

Hmmmm.... haven't been getting post notifications and I guess I've missed a few in here.

I't not a matter of 'stepping up', it's more a matter of hours in a day during peak season when this all came up. That said and with tihngs settled in after a hectic Spring, I've already got the plans drawn up for a sleek mounting system with multiple possibilities for rest styles themselves. The backrest itself isn't the problem, it's a secure enough mounting configuration to hold the weight of a large (or overly large even) person. Add to this that they're most needed in an emergency for security of this passenger. This all said, and in a very litigious society where everyone wants to sue everyone, it damn well better be rock solid. This is why it has taken so long... gotta think twice, cut once, back to the drawing board, and then multiplied 20 over...
All I will say at this point is that the one I am working on will be as non-evasive as simple drilling a few holes in the cover instead of big slits. As of now the design will be quick release. I'll hold the final details when further along and more appropriate.

The new shop is almost up and running and has been taking ALL of my time lately. As soon as I'm settled in and catch up on stock that's slipped while moving I'll be getting on those as well as passenger floorboard risers, with a slight rearward slat and moved out ever so slightly for added passenger comfort.

Just picked up my '11 a couple weeks ago and the first mod I wanted to make was trunk removal with passenger backrest. So I am very interested in what you come up with, Will, especially since you sold the last Vic model known to man to Bill (spiderman)! Yea, he rubbed it in my face!

You have my interest in your final product - I really like the look (according to the pictures I've seen) of the Victory backrest, and it's apparently sturdy framework. I would like to end up with a convertable model, either trunk, backrest and rack, or naked tail. So far, I have two out of the three.

Yes I would like to see some kind of backrest offered in the near future. Some of us do like to mix things up a bit so maybe a few choices ie tall, short, wide with or with out a rack, chrome or black. Something that would bolt on to the bike under the seat would be great! All of that for under 500.00 would be a big hit. I think Victory should move on this before there is an after market one available. Or just release more of the old ones !!

I just purchased a new 2010 Vision 8 Ball and would love a passenger backrest without having to buy a trunk or a whole new seat. I have been searching the web looking for solutions and have only found vision-mod.com as an option. Is the hope of a passenger backrest from this thread still an option?

I am new to Victory, but, in my opinion, they have really screwed this up. This is not a good way to do business.
