Great Jim!

Funny you should mention the 4710.  I dropped my bike off for an oil change, new battery and new headlight bulb replacement (PIAA Anti-Vibration) at my dealer yesterday and they had a 75% off clearance table with a bunch of random stuff on it.  I flipped over a small packet and it was a Kuryakyn 4710 kit for Metric bikes for $17. 00!  I snagged it, slapped a 20 on the counter and took it home.  It will probably take me months to finally pull the trigger and install it.  I have a Stebel Air horn kit that I got Christmas of '08 that is still in the box.  I have to play it in my head a hundred times before I get enough confidence to cut into the wiring.  The 4710 has lots of options and I have to decide whether the main brake lights will flash or just the 99 LEDs and trunk running lights.   Plus running the new wire to split the trunk lights into left/right.  If you smell something burning, it's probably my brain trying to figure all this stuff out.

My next big "simple" project is to take two 12" strings of white Stingerz (30 LEDs each) and curve them around the outside edge of the mirrors and under the lower edge of the fairing to make it look like Audi running lights.  (Mounted in black Stingerz covers that are bent to follow that curve.)  They will be 'tap and play" just like the 99 LEDs.  Just have to get out the wiring schematic and find the color of the front running light wires.  I think that will make the front end look absolutely wicked.

Go Tom Go! If you can make it in a "paint by numbers" I will give it a try. You had me excited for a short second about your 4710 purchase that I would have jumped on. Nice buy, do they have any more? I will be on watch for the next project. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

i think the audi type lights are cool, just make sure you get super bright leds. i only say this because i see alot of these honda kids with their Aftermarket headlights with the audi style lighting. and they in no way look even close to as bright as the audi style leds.. (btw kia is doing this now on the sportage!) the honda kids led setup looks like a after thought. i cant wait to see your project!

Hey Jim, they only had one set of the 4710's or I would have bought them all up and posted it here.

Hey Chris, I'd love to do high-powered LEDs but they are pretty big, expensive and not usually strung together.  The Stingerz are not latest generation high-powered LEDs but they are really thin, flexible and waterproof.  I'd be using them to just outline the lines of the batwing more than anything else.  If they look cheesy I'll take them off but if they make the Vision look even more outrageous I'll probably keep them on.  The reason I'm even thinking of doing this is because I color-matched all of the aluminum pieces.  After I painted the bike, VisionTex made a great observation.  "Tom, I love the paint job but your front end looks really small now.  You went from being four feet wide with the aluminum pieces to only being as wide as your turn signals."  Look at head-on pictures of a regular Vision with the aluminum pieces and an 8-Ball Vision.  The regular Vision looks twice as wide coming at you compared to the blacked-out 8-Ball.  The LED strips on those outer edges should give me that 4-foot width back and still blend in with the bike.

Stand by for news.......

Love it or hate it, that giant aluminum (or chrome) flying V, B-2 bomber panel really stands out in traffic.

I you think V stands out in AL or Chrome.....You should see it in crushed red velvet....with Christmas lights....and the rider is Santa!

It is almost that time of year....I bought a Sears 140 Watt Inverter (on sale for 19.95) ...and 50 LED white c-6 lights this week.

Now all I need are some bells.

Santa is riding in real style this year.

I recall someone who covered the headlight for a parade and ended up with it melting into a real mess. Hope you have a Cee Baileys cover to prevent the same thing from ruining Santa's trip.

Tom,
I've had the 4710 hanging on the wall above my work bench now for two years, just can't get excited about putting it in, and when I do have time, I'm riding, maybe later. If I do hook it up, I'm only going to do the trunk lights. I've seen a bunch of motorcycle tail lights with the flashing and there are times when the turn signals are on and the brake applied and you can't tell the turn signals are on. With the V configuration of the Vision tail lights, in my opinion it is just to busy with all th flashing.

I need to get off of my butt and make a video for the 4710 Install. It would help the visual learners out there and make the install go faster with less messing around. Plus, I need to get the cool side taps that SongFan uses to demo in the video...I used solder on mine.

It might be a bit busy at times but they would at least see you.

I wish you would make the video. I tried doing this right after I bought my '08 Vision last February, but could not get the right signal to work and gave up. The 4710 is still in the bike, but I disconnected all the wires. Maybe I can try again this winter?

Has anyone done this install and retained the ability to take the trunk off?

My other bike(s) I left all the bags on all the time, but I think it looks pretty damned sleek without the trunk and want to retain the ability to keep the trunk off for commuting and putting it on only the weekends when the wife rides with me.

If you follow the directions and use the Posi-Taps, all you have to do is unscrew the caps where the two wires go in, pull the wires, screw the caps back on and pull the trunk.  The LED wires will stay with the trunk.

sfalexi - I used a trailer wire connector. Simply unplug and change from tour to street. Only problem is once I had the extra lights I no longer wanted to remove the trunk.

AWESOME idea. I like it and will be picking up some trailer wiring ASAP. Now to wait until I find a good deal on the kuryakyn 4710...

SongFan - we finally got some decent enough weather in the NorthWest to try the install. Yahoo! The SPCSHP is now 'spacier' !

I had all the pages and photos printed out and just followed your great instructions. The 'taps' they sent me were different than those in your instructions, so I had a tight sphincter for a few minutes, but I got it - and they look BETTER than I had hoped! Thanks a heap for your help !

Glad it worked out for you Don!  Reading about the reactions to this mod is very satisfying for me.  I just wish I could see it in action for myself!

I finally got onboard with this and the Kuryakyn 4710 - well, I ordered it all and it arrives tomorrow. Getting it installed and working together is still a tiny bit troubling as I've read some conflicting info and some of the photos, while great, are a bit fuzzy (the 4710 ones, not the Stingerz). Barring self-electrocution and/or setting the bike aflame, I hope to get the Stingerz combined with the 4710 on my black 08 Vision Tour Premium. I wonder if the light mod of cutting the G/H is still as useful (haven't done it yet) given the extra Stingerz and the 4710 features. I am aware of the advice to NOT follow the 4710 instructions about cutting wires and also not to tap into the main (lower) tail/brake lights. Hopefully, it's pretty simple after that and does not require the load equalizer.

I was able to re-wire a separate Fuze Block into the rt/rear saddlebag and connect my radar/gps/mixit accessories permanently to that. So, I'm hopeful this isn't much harder. I guess the most important thing is being sure of locating the correct wires and color combinations. In place of the Muth mirrors, has anyone tried using two 6" stingerz on the mirror housings somewhere and tying them to the blinker circuit on the 4710? Or would that be too distracting or bright for the driver?

i didNT do the (4710) mod i just installed the 99 leds and wired them into the stock brake light wiring. I did NOT have to cut any wires at all. i used posi tap connectors and the whole mod was effortless. shockingly easy

Ray, I've had the mod installed for some time now with no problems. Used the 4710 and five 9" light strings from Harbor Freight (probably not as bright as some others). Everything is wired into my trailer light harness which includes an isolator. Also used a trailer harness connector to permit the trunk to be removed.

I'm in your neck of the woods. If you want to take a look send me a PM.

UH OH!  I got down to the splice-wires part and there is NO white/pink wire in the bundle.  I thought maybe I somehow had the wrong branch of the bundle, so I split the shorter one also and still no white/pink.  The bundle that appears to be the one in the instructions has the 3 black, along with several other colors and the only odd one is a WHITE/GREEN.  I can't find a reference to it in the manual so far.  I am attaching 2 photos of the bundles split open after the big plug.  These are facing the trunk from the front to back.  Any suggestions would be welcome.
