varyder - 2012-07-12 10:57 AM Rest assure I ride what I ride and could care less what anyone else thinks.

I think any Vision rider could make that claim. While the vast amount of people that comment on my Vision like it there will always be a few that have to put it down or as someone in another thread said, swear it's a Japanese bike and no amount of proof will change their mind.

These people are everywhere. I was a car/bike meet on a Saturday evening and I was admiring a good looking, yet older looking harley. An older gentleman owned it and rode it frequently. He had solid wheels on it instead of spoke type. He shared with me where other harleys riders in various places would be very mindful to tell him without any introduction that those wheels look like "sh*t" on your bike old man, and would walk on. I've had my encounters concerning the Vision, but I just laugh, because people like that are deflated to begin with and they need something to lift themselves up.

Back on track --- any other Vision apers out there? Mini-apers, high risers, whatever.

I'm sitting in the living room and I'm measuring about 18 inches up from what my normal bars would be on the vision, then I'm hangin' my arms like I'm holdin' on to some apes. I'm sitting there for a minute and thinking with my hands up in the air when my wife says "forget about it!" I said "forget about what?" "you ain't puttin' no goofy handle bars on your bike, that would look stupid." Now, if she rode with me more I would take that to heart, but I did get a good chuckle out of it, that she guessed at what I was trying to do.

Most but not all riders find that if their hands are above their shoulders it's painful after awhile. And I agree with your wife, 18" bars would look silly on a Vision.

It always depends on your point of view. There are many things that so called normal folks think it is normal looking to them that I find that is not to my liking.  An example of this is the recent Victory T-shirt contest for sturgis.  I like by far the simple graphic of the front view of the bike, and a subtle badge of Victory on the back.  I would buy two of those t-shirts.  However, there is an overwhelming liking to the large Victory badge on the front so everyone who wears one will be a walking billboard for Victory.  Not my taste of things, but so be it, the majority is happy and that is what counts, and I'm happy too, I'll save me a few dollars.

If you know me, I'm too practical for my own good, and cheap. While it seems I can still ride long distance as proven on my recent trip to kentucky and back, the trips to and from work are causing me issues. I think if I change the bars some, it might help. I'm still experimenting before I make the move so when I do it, it will be for a good reason. With that said, I don't care how silly I look to anyone else as long as it keeps me in the saddle.

maybe see if you can adapt the adjustable High Ball bars. They are adjustable up and down and all around.

I am 6'6 and the Ness Bars are perfect for me and not too low at all and more comfortable than stock... My 2 cents...

Chris...these may be an option to look at as well.

http://www.hmd520.com/category/Vision-Bars-37

I can't comment on the Vision Ape Handle bars that he has on his site but I can comment on the vendor... I just purchased a set of the 2" pullback bars and I was quite happy with the product and the service from the seller. Each time I called it was Mike who answered and he took the time to answere my questions, both before and after receiving my money.

Varyder, I met a guy in Daytona with the Ness Miniapes and he said it's really comfortable. It puts his hands about shoulder height, straight in front of him.

looks really good Rick!!! That's the feedback I'm look for and the pictures says a lot. I've got to get me something I can sit up there for a little while to see what that does to my shoulders before I make any drastic moves. I think it will help if I can "hang". I like what you've done to your vision and the adaptation of the trunk. Great looking bike.

Apes in general look silly on a vision. Like chrome wheels on a mini van, or a hood scoop on a station wagon... But just because it looks silly is no reason to Not do it if YOU like it! That guy you see with the plastic chrome hub caps that look like spinner wheels, in his mind its the greatest thing he could have added to his mini van and in his mind, he is C O O L no one can tell him other wise!!!

if, for me, it's about cool, I wouldn't asking, I'd just do it. This is about being able to ride longer. While the Vision may be the most comfortable bike on the planet, for others, even the seat is painful, whereas a bike that is painful for 90% of us to ride works perfect for the other 10%.

i agree my 2011 seat is not as "soft" as my 2008.. I ended up having to buy a propad and WOW what a difference. I feel the 2011 seat is better made, strong material etc.... Its just not as comfy and i wasnt about to drop a 4 digit number on a New seat..

I rode a 2011 and noticed immediately I was riding higher, stiffer foam for sure. The folks I remember complaining about the Vision comfort and back pain was in the early does of '08. Thinking it was jab at the Vision because they said that the Vision sucked and made their back hurt, I gave a jab back. However, I think they were in the clear and I realized that the Vision is not for everyone, nor is all situations the same for everyone. I don't know who and why anyone put the first apes on a bike for, but I'm sure there are some that find it very comfortable than low bars.

I would make any modification to keep me on the road. I would paint my bike hot pink if that's what it took to keep me rolling.

Those apes look great but I'd be massively uncomfortable leaning that far forward. For all that, I'd get a sports bike.
