My fellow vision brothers, my vision went down with my wife & I...;( I have a banged up shoulder and sore elbow with little road rash, my wife in the other hand is in worse shape so my prayers keep going to her! God bless her! As for accident: very simple older couple missed stop sign of interstate ramp which lead me to hit brakes and T-bone them...they said they did not see me? They got sited with a citation but doesn't fix my wifes fractured ribs, hair line crack in her sacrum, sore knee...etc. The bike looks ok but not sure the status of it? This happen on easter sunday only 4 miles away from our house...please be careful out there, these cars just don't see us! They probably were on their early 70's and kept saying sorry, sorry we take full responsibility because I did Not see you...I said mam that doesn't fix my wife who lost concise...I was so pist! I will keep you posted as I get more info. I was released, my wife is getting physical therapy at hospital to see if she can get discharged.
Have blessed day to everyone!

Heal quick.
That is the number one excuse used by people I believe. Isn't that the reason they made a law to make M/Cs have their headlight on? So many people can't see a M/C but they can lock up their brakes for a squirrel? It doesn't seem like age matters, all ages use the excuse.

Prayers go out to you and your wife for a speedy recovery. We had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. Wife and I are getting back to normal except for her shoulder. Bike is still in shop. Have your bike thoroughly checked for damage, you'd be amazed at what can get messed up. If you have any problems getting parts, have your dealer take advantage of the "Biker Down Program". Vic will expedite parts to get you up and going again. Many dealers don't even know about it.

Glad your outcome wasn't worse. Godspeed in both of your recoveries

Sorry to hear about your accident. My wife and I were in a very bad accident about 5 years ago. The other driver saw us and he still cut us off and totaled out the bike. After he saw us , and the reason why I say this is because he and I made eye contact. He was in the left hand turn lane and he stopped. Made both of us feel safe. We were going about 45 mph on a posted 50 mph street. No one else around. This driver in the car decided to make his left hand turn in front of us. There was no where to go. I believe that some accidents are done on purpose and made to look like an accident. That was the only accident I had in 40 years of riding. My wife will not ride any more. Be careful out there. Trust no one. I still ride too. Peace.

All my best to you and your wife. Just another reality check for those of us who ride. I'm amazed every day on my 45 min. ride to work as a schoolteacher and after school in my "other" work truck fertilizing lawns - just how many distracted drivers there are out there. Bad driving/decisions know no age or sex. We just have to be so diligent, aware. I've been on the wrong side of 3 bike crashes-glad none of them involved my wife.....

My opinion of course, but I think much of this is caused by "No Fault" crap that many states adapted after buckling  to insurance company pressure. Many of these driver feel immune to consequences. I think we need to get some lawyer biker types to research us a way to be able to take these people to civil court and and make them bleed some greenbacks. Although difficult, it should be possible in many cases, to convince a jury that there was no way someone didn't see you, that they intentionally cut you off.

I think if just a couple of cagers lost a million in a publicized case, they would start to "see" us.

Our prayers are with you. The amount of distracted drivers are worse than I realized. Standing in the center median last month doing the MDA boot drive for Jerry's Kids, I would say 70% of the drivers that got caught at the traffic light were texting, talking, eating, fixing their hair, or some combination. On women had a smoke in one hand and a breakfast sandwich in the other and was driving with her knees. The scary part about that is she couldn't open the window to put a dollar in the boot without freeing up a hand. It took 30 seconds for her to figure out she had to put something down. What if she had to act fast to avoid a crash.

Our prayers are with you. Older drivers are a real hazard on the roads. Just ride like they are out to kill you no matter what. The law of gross tonnage is not in our favor if we tangle with a cage.

Eric, I hope you and your wife recover quickly and fully. I always tell anyone who will listen that I DON'T ride like I'm invisible. They see me and are aiming for me. I assume and expect every car, truck, bycycle, etc. To cut me off or pull out in front of me. I hope this helps.

Best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery for you both. My benchmark has always been making eye contact and flashing my brights if I cannot confirm eye contact has been made but as fang111 has indicted above that might not be enough. I guess we all need to ride like we are in a demolition derby.

Eric........prayers with you and your wife.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Related to the not see us matter......it is true sad to say that it happens.  Happens to us and I would guess most of us.   Long ago there was an article in a Brit Bike magazine on this topic and they showed a pix taken from the back seat of a car where a pencil held infront of the driver at the right location total obscured the bike.  Also there was a statement about our eyes being able to pick out objects moving left to right and often missing smaller objects moving toward us or away from us......not that this is any consolation to your wife or you.

One final point is a couple of years ago it happened to us during the day when we were in our 1969 Blazer......sorta semi monster truck.  I was able to barely stop and for what it is worth the fear in the other drivers eyes/face as we were bearing down on his driver door was something neither of us will forget......however this time it was too much so I sort of blocked the other guys truck and went over and talked to him.  Same exchange.....did not see us........and my reply was.....is this truck too friggging small for you too see............ the red paint not red enough......the headlights on high beam not bright enough?  Then I told him if this ever happens again I will know him......and not stop ........but accelerate.  That was that .......I am confident he looks both ways a couple of times now!

Mike

I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers! Wife got dispatch from hospital but she is just starting to start walking with a two wheeler. We have a nurse and a occupational therapist coming 3 days a week until she gets better. My wife is a trooper but I can't say she will climb up on a bike quickly. I will, but I'm sure it will be tough the first time? Still not sure on the status of bike as appraisal not done yet...will keep you all posted. Thanks again for all the love! Bless you all!
