Has anyone actually put a 2010 radio in a 2008?  if so, did it work? and did it make a noticeable difference in reception and sound.

So, based on that, those of us with an 08 can get an install of a 2010 radio. The only problem would be if the radio is not actiong up, the cost would be ours.

Do you know if the radio was "plug and play?" I know Victory loves to do things like change electrical connectors, etc between model years. Would love to swap mine!

You also need to consider compatibility with the 2008 CB, GPS and XM Radio modules.

Since the currently shown CB and XM radio part numbers have not changed since 08, they should work fine with the 2010 radio....

It is a plug and play unit. The ONLY thing you'd run into that might be a problem for you is the GPS since Victory swapped to the Zumo for 2010.

No problem since my new GPS is the Zumo 660!

I'm 99.99% sure that your dealer can contact the radio manufacturer direct and order you a radio swap. Last year my understanding was the dealer pulled your radio, boxed it up and shipped it to the company that supplies the radio's to Victory along with a check for $175. As soon as they receive your radio they send out the new to the dealer.
Mine was covered under warranty due to a complete failure of my radio and since Victory was receiving the 2010 radio's that is what they shipped to my dealer. In fact they told the dealer it would be an extra 2 week wait for my radio as they didn't want to put anything but the 2010 radio in my bike.
Now I would CAUTION folks to take my comments about the new radio with a grain of salt. I would not purposely lie to you guys but to be honest my radio was SO BAD from day 1 that I could barely pick up WB and had to stop and positon the bike just right to get clear reception on WB. Radio faded in and out on reception most of the time. So what I'm saying is compared to my stock 08 radio this one is 100% better. Reception is great on WB and radio mode.

I just read a post a couple of days ago that you can send your radio back to the manufacturer with $175 and they will ship you a new one. I'll try and find the post.

Does anyone know if the new 2010 radio with let the cb radio work with the outside speakers, so u can use with with either outside are helment speakers. thats the thing i don,t like about using the cb when riding with a group using the cbs to talk, i like for it to mute my music on outside speakers and be able to here the cb radio from the out side speakers.

Ok, so I e-mailed RadioSound, the OEM manufacturer for Victory Radios. Here is their response:

Hello Mark,
Our exchange program is to support customers out of warranty that may have a problem with their sound system. We do not exchange one model radio for another. The difference between the 2009 and 2010 Victory Vision radios is in the display. You should consult your dealer for a 2010 radio as we do not sell radios except to Victory. By the way, your Victory dealer can update the software in your radio to current levels with their Digital Wrench tool. For your information, the XM radio and the CB/intercom on the 2008 or 2009 models will not work with the 2010 display so, if you get a 2010 radio through your dealer, these parts of the system would have to be updated to the 2010 models too. If you have any other questions, I will be happy to assist you.

Best regards,

Is there a difference between 2008 version of radio and 2009? Guy from Radio Sound says only difference between 2009 and 2010 is display. All I know is that I get pretty good sound up to "10," then it gets distorted as hell at 11 and up. My wife has a rear hard time hearing at normal highway noise levels. Any possibility that the Digital Wrench radio updates will help the distotion? Is it a radio thing or a speaker thing?

Man314, I don't know who you talked to at RS but there is no difference between the 2008 & 09 radio's except display. However there are a number of changes to the 2010 radio according to Victory to include display and GPS interface. All I know is it works WAY better than my 08 radio ever did.

Teach,

Did you have the black Ipod connector on your radio? I understand the 2010 radio uses the iPod cable with two connectors?? Which one do you have? When I contacted the OEM they said the same thing they did to Man314. That the CB and XM radios had to be changed to matched the new 2010 radio. I know when you go to the Victory Accessories site, they list the same part numbers for the XM for all three years, same for the CB.. I wonder what the difference is in the Zumo GPS connections? I wonder if the 660 has a stereo or mono motorcycle harness. With the 665 coming out, it would be nice. The harness to the Vision for the 27xx and 28xx Streetpilots was mono.

whinchey, No idea about the Ipod connector and no intentions of finding out. My 08 radio burned up TWO Ipods and I have no intentions of making it 3, lol.... I use a cheap mp3 player now on which I download tunes I like and listen to them as they come up if/when I actually put on tunes. I would assume based on what I've read that the XM and CB stuff might be different but I don't run those so again I can't say. As for GPS? I run a TomTom Rider for which I have a bluetooth ear pad in my lid barking instructions and from which I can answer my phone if so inclined. Sorry I can't be more help BUT if I was not having issues with my current radio I wouldn't even consider swapping.
I should add that it was VICTORY'S decision to replace my 08 radio with the 10, not something I decided or asked for.

I got an email from the OEM on the radio today. He said the 2010 radio is a direct replacement for the 2008. The pin outs are the same. Also the GPS connection is still mono and will not accept stereo. So if you use a stereo output XM on your GPS you might consider buying the Mix-It amp to bring this and other music sources into your vision. MP3, Radar detector, etc.

The Mix-It 2 is exactly the setup I have been using for a long time now. In fact, since I use it, I went ahead with the new Zumo 665 and omitted getting the harness. I just wired it direct to the fuse box for power and run it to the Mix-It along with my Radar Detector and any other audio accessory. This way, I can go hard wire and get it all, or go bluetooth and get it all. I can live without the integration in mono.

Did the Zumo 665 have a 3.5mm stereo output jack like the StreetPilot 2820 did? Is this where you connected the Mix-It? Or did you take it from the Garmin bike harness? And a final question. Do you have the pinout for the Zumo 665 bike harness?

Thanks Wes

I installed the Bazooka Audio 5.25" Speakers they make for H.D. and the audio amplifier kit they make for G.W. motorcycles. This upgrade made a big difference in the sound quality and volume level before distortion. I put the amplifier in the left saddlebag on a shelf and used speaker baffles on all four speakers, throwing out the stock front speaker enclosures.

The 665 has the same 3.5mm out that the 2820 has.  And yes, that is how I hooked it up on the 2820.  I am probably going to try running the 3.5mm dedicated cable from the zumo 664 power harness under the console and into the glovebox to connect to the MixIt.   That will save a cable from aux out for slightly cleaner install.  I ran power yesterday after dismantling the console and left it like that.  I will finish today and see how it works.  As far as pin-outs on the Zumo harness - I assume you are asking about the Vic harness that is used for the 2010 bikes to interface with the zumo?  If so, no I don't know.  Sorry.

Dirk - did you need the Bazooka amp or could you have used the vision radio be your power source?

I see that the Bazooka speakers are not very efficient (88 db @ 1w @ 1 meter) but at least they are 2ohm speakers and should work fine with the vision radio output.

Where did you get the speaker baffles ( I didn't see them on the site)?

I just wanted to pipe in and let everyone know that the connectors for the 2010 and the 08-09 for the audio harness are different. I bought a 2010 CB and installed it but the dealer could not see it through the software. Also the connector that connects the control unit on the handlebar to the bike is a white ended, 4 pins in a line connector. The 08-09 connection is a blueish grey color and has 4 pins in a box shape. Don't buy a 2010 CB and think it will work in a 08-09 bike. It will not work. I am also having issues with my radio and I get nothing on the display but the Ipod will play and the controls work.
