I know this will open a can of worms it always does. Just bought my Vision today. I always run Amsoil in my Harleys, is full synthetic appropriate for the 106" engine after break in?

Maybe JediJeff should put a Skull & Crossbones warning on the home page regarding any discussion on #$%.

I won't even spell it out for fear of invoking the WRATH.

I'm just saying...

Oh boy...oh boy...this is gonna be great!

If you use veggie oil, you can ride to the lake, drain the crankcase, then have a fish fry, filter and refill the crankcase and ride home... eco friendly too!

You guys crack me up!

XRSteve, I have used Amsoil motorcycle 20-50 on all my Vics without problems. Some here have had issues with Amsoil while most have not. YMMV

there is a website for directly for OIL. www.bobistheoilguy.com any question you can ever think of for oil can be answered there in detail that will make your head spin.. people there with their motorcycles will send their used oil in to be tested to see how it performed and then post the results for you to read. its alot better to get facts than butting heads back and forth doing the (tastes great, less filling debate).

After break-in, I used Victory oil for my first oil change. Since then, I've used Amsoil. I have about 25,000 miles on it now - no problems thus far. I'm going about double the recommended interval with it. I'm not a fanatic about it, though.

Lone ranger was it Amsoil 20w50 or 10w40? I'm a Amsoil fan also. I've used Amsoil V-twin 20-50 in my 2003 RoadGlide since the second oil change ( 45,250 miles now ) and also in my 121HP 88 cu in 7500 rpm Sportster, never any problems, but they have iron liners Not Nicasil. I'm new to the Victory world..................Thanks everybody.............steve

The only complaints I have heard about Amsoil in Victorys is from someone that said their customers put it in and messed up their clutches. No mention if the bikes had EZ Clutch on them or if the customer may have used the wrong Amsoil or even if the owners were known for doing burnouts. I have over 100,000 using the proper Amsoil in my Vics with NO problems.
Now that my local ACE Hardware store carries Amsoil life is good.

Anybody who read all the Bob IS the Guru of all oil, care to tell us all what he had to say. Anybody care to sum it up. I don't feel like reading that much or letting my head spin out of control.

he says, actually his posters say it don't matter. as long as the oil is within specs for the application.... that is the long and short of it. Also, his number one rule is be factual and professional. No bashing, trashing, or grumbling about someone elses assessment.

They've got all kind of reports and pictures and on an on and on. Believe it or not the $2.00 SuperTech rates within the Ok to good limit from what I read.

Out of all the zillions of gallons of oil my dad has used in his trucks, bull-dozers, etc, the only thing that he found to be a snow-job is Slick50.

Without mention of Brand ...what is the difference between 20w-50 and 10w-40 for a V-Twin? Does it depend on type of driving

temperature?

Meaning for exemple 20w-50 for the Hot southern States and 10W-40 for the Northern States (Cooler Temp.)..?

All I can say is on the other American Motorcycle you have separate, tranny, primary and engine oils. The Vic has one that does it all, hence the need to change at 2500. Cant say if the others outlast that or not but I'm gonna change at 2.5k and use what came in the bike...for what its worth.

Someone asked about whats the differnece between 20w50 and 10w40. if you use a high grade synth oil, you Dont need a 20w50. when i had my kawasaki vulcan 2000 (125ci) i ran amsoil for 7500 miles and sent the used oil in to be tested at blackstone labs. i was shocked with the results. they told me i was able to extend the oil change even further since all the additives and cleaners were way within spec. plus it was still within the 10w40 grade and didnt (at that point) thin to a W30. one thing about the 20w50 vs 10w40 is, the 10w40 flows faster on a dry start up. So if your using a high grade synth like Amsoil, you dont need 20w50. I think victory recommends a w40 grade anyways? btw you wont hurt anything by using a 20w50 very slight decrease in fuel economy (very slight) . here is something i was wondering.. Since victory recommends a w40 oil and we have self adjusting valve lashers, do the valves self adjust quicker with w40 vs w50? thats a question not a statement..

XRsteve - 2010-02-22 11:06 PM Lone ranger was it Amsoil 20w50 or 10w40?

It's Amsoil 20w50 synthetic.  My Victory dealer is who has been changing my oil for me (I usually change my own oil, but the last couple of times have been while I had my bike at the shop anyway for routine maintenance or extras being added).
