I have been considering getting my CCW license and know that many of you shoot or maybe considering carrying a concealed weapon while you travel.

Riding back from North Carolina, the WU and I stopped at a gas station just north of Beckley WV to get out of the rain for a bit. As we approached the gas station overhang, I noticed 6 motorcycles doing the same. As we dismount, the riders, all wearing colors, came out of the gas station minimart. At least one started to scowl at the Vision and he wasn't happy we were there. It was a very uneasy feeling as we were riding alone.

While there wasn't an altercation, I keep thinking what if these featured gangland riders wouldn't have been so nice.

I know many of you ride a lot more than me and just wondered your thoughts.

Depends which colors they are wearing. Sonny Bargar (H/A President) rides a Vision.

yes was my vote. I carry all the time and have a conceld weapons permit (CWP). I work in a field that puts me near dirt bags everyday. So I know whats out there and I would never leave home without it. Way to many psyhco's and freaks out there that just want to do you, your family, and property harm trust me, so yeah i carry and will always carry. I have got myself out of some very ugly shit over my 44 years on this planet just becasue they knew (seen) I was armed. Just understand not all conceld weapon permits are legal in other states. Example my WA state CWP is no good in Oregon. Most cops wont F-with you if you are polite and respectful and atleast have CWP or CCW in your case but they can get ugly if they want. Ride safe or rider safer with a CWP. Just my thoughts.

I just realized that I should have but a "i'd rather not say" option. Can't edit it now. Sorry.

KenAndPen, what about when you have to grab a room for a night, etc. Do you feel as safe as you did at home?

How about a "would love to but cant" option in the voting?

Damn bullcrap uptight crooked Illinois politicians won't "allow" it.

Oh yeah, sorry for you. Believe me, there are a lot of issues in Ohio too. Cleveland, where I work is a perfect case and point.

Unfortunately I can't change the voting options (that I can find).

ScoreBo, I work for an Airline so we get some pretty good discounts at certain hotels and they are not usually in the seedier parts of town. I always try to park by the front door and cover the bike every night.

Even some friends of ours that are in high up in law enforcement leave the weapons at home. Just too much hastle at the border, and the hastle is usually coming back into Canada.

I'm not worried about the bike, I am worried about me. I ride with some cheap SOBs and stay a less expensive motels in unfamiliar areas if we have to stay overnight somewhere.

Of course the crooks we elect here in Illinois (being a crook is a prerequesite in Chicago) don't want us to have concealed weapons.  It is worth noting that they are all protected by armed security while in session.   The number one hypocrite is Mayor Daley that constantly crusades against citizen ownership of firearms.  His armed security did detain for arrest one of the escaped crooks that wandered onto his vacation property last week.  All Chicago aldermen (ok, alderpersons) can legally carry concealed weapons.  I would hope that in the future the rest of the country remembers that no politician from Illinois should ever be voted into office in a federal election.

We need another category to vote for, which is my position.  That would be, "I don't discuss the subject."  I definitely would rather be in legal trouble than the morgue though.

Legally I can't carry in Illinois, that said though, I follow the letter of law when it comes to legally transporting my personal firearm, it is unloaded and in a compartment separate from the ammunition, yet IF a situation arises I can access it and load it a subtly and fast enough to defend my life. The key wording in Illinois law is the definition of the word "case".

The SOG is always in my pocket. I'm still trying to figure out a decent way to carry my choice - fanny packs may be the only option, and my piece is a bit bulky for the vest pocket. Can't carry open because I have CCW permits. I'm about half thinking of a Makarov or LCP something similar, but everything is about money.

Is the trigger pull on the .32 any lighter than the Kel Tec 9mm?  I had one of those and sold it as I found it so difficult to shoot I couldn't hit the side of a barn.  I have a Tarus titanium .38 harmerless that's light as a feather and a Glock 19 but I'd like something smaller in a semi auto to carry in a pocket.

I've had the Kel Tec and the Makarov, as well as an Ultra Compact by Springfield. Neither the Kel Tec nor the Mak are good for anything but inside 5 yards- and then it's still a sporting chance. With a Commander size .45, the odds are much more in my favor.

Not much point in CCW if you tell everyone....
There are a number of problems with carrying when riding. Riding local isn't much of an issue if you have your license/permit, but travelling from state to state can be a problem unless you plan very carefully. There are several good carry websites that list reciprocity agreements by state, and/or rules for concealed carry in each. Damn shame two long time Republicans crossed the isle and voted no to the recent legislation allowing universal CCW amongst states. Sure would have made life easier, and been more Constitutional.

And if you are armed where you aren't suppose to be it will cost you 5-10 no matter how polite. And you'll never be allowed to carry or own again after.

Right next door to ya, Jim. There's a breaking news story today about a guy held up by a couple of punks in a park in the Las Vegas suburbs. He didn't have any money on him, so they shot and killed him.
