I have been reading at other vic sites of folks who are tired of the slow pace and the site being down to often and have decided to bail and not come back. Thats really to bad because we have and had some good folks here. I hate to see them leave because who ever host this site cant make it faster or keep it from going down so often. I plan to stay but may not stop by or post as often as i have in the past. Great site but in todays tech this site really should move faster and not be down so much either. Just my two cents.

Hell i even own a shirt from this site thats how much i like it here.

Ironically, I just sent an email to the webmaster asking what the issues are.

I am hoping that it is a function of hardware causing the issues. This would be a fairly quick fix comparatively speaking.

Hope to hear something back soon.

I am not leaving as I have invested too much time and effort into this site. But will certainly become more active on others until this is resolved.

I couldn't agree more this is insane. This is the first time I have been able to get on the site since 2 pm Tuesday. While I like all the information that is shared here if the situation continues I will be investigating one of the other sites.

I'd like to know what other sites you are reading this information at

I visit this site and thevmc quite a bit (daily) and thevog every few days and I haven't seen any posts from any folks who have said they are "bailing" or anything along these lines. Heck, I've only seen one post regarding the slowness of this site and that was when a member from here stirred the nest up a bit over at thevog. Am I missing something somewhere?

I'll admit that sometimes this site is slower when compared to others, and it has been down once or twice. But in reality it really isn't that bad. Its nowhere near bad enough for me to complain about it. And I will never "bail" due to this issue.

I'm tending to bet that the speed and dependability of this site has to do with the financials of this site. I pretty much doubt that Jeff or Miles are making much (if any) money on this site, and it wouldn't suprise me in the least if it was a overall drain on thier checkbooks. The site sponsor money and the product sales don't add up to much....trust me on this one

But....what if there was a request from JAM or Miles for some type of volunteer financial donation so this site could be faster? Would you be willing to toss in a few dollars?

Or better yet....what if they made a "Special Edition" and/or a "Limited Quanity" type item, like a very nice high quality shirt or jacket or whatever, and promissed to reinvest the profit from this item back into this site so that it could be quicker and more stable. Would you purchase it? Even if it was a bit more pricey than normal? And....would you be willing to spend this money up front...prior to the item being made? If so, what would you like to see made available? Shirt? Jacket? Blanket? Etc...

I know I'm probaly speaking out of term by suggesting a site donation and the "special item" idea might be bit out of line. And I'd be a bit suprised if either of these is taken up. But hey...I've never been one to bite my tongue much

I have been talking about this under the UK banner. We should go to a forum engine such as from these guys:
http://www.proboards.com/

Really, stable, free and works much better. Shall we set one up independently?

Its a shame that rather than work through the issue internally he has to beat up the site on another forum. Good riddence....

In the mean time Jeff and Miles what is the issue we are facing?

FYI

The hosting company we are using had a major failure that affected many sites. They are still in the process of resolving it.

That said, we are moving Vision Riders to another host soon as part of a large upgrade and a few surprises we have planned.

Jeff and I agreed at the start of this project that the service would remain FREE. However, there has always been a way to "donate to the cause," it's on the About Us page.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support and participation. The last update was that the issues would be resolved by this evening.

Thanks again.

One thing I keep saying, "No matter how fast they make it (insert anything with computers) it's never fast enough.

I have read a few posts about the speed here or that's down. I learned this neat trick. While it's slow I open up another tab and visit another site. When I get back here it's usually fine. Yes, this site is slow at times but maybe the jump ship guys have too much trash (for lack of a better word) on their computers? :P I figure some of the posts are justifying to themselves why they aren't coming here anymore or whatever.
I only post at TheVMC to help others most of the time, well, a few sarcastic posts too. I like this place and the VOG. Heck I had Deputy Dawg (not Andy) over at the VOG whine cause I linked this site and TheVMC. It's all about making knowledge available to all that are interested. I don't think any of the site owners are worried all the members are going to jump ship because of links put on their sites.

Let's get out and ride.

The membership here has grown quite a bit since the early days. It may be slow or inaccessible at times but how we can anyone complain about a free service. For those that leave, they probably should be visiting other sites anyway. Improvements are nice and donations may help the cause. Thanks for providing a site for all of the loyal Vision Riders.

Since inception this site has been a MAJOR resource for a lot of Vision owners. I have been here since Sept 07 and have seen the combined sharing of ideas, experiences, does and don'ts, etc., all with the common interest of the Vision.
I bitch and complain when it is slow and frustrating, but it is still the best site for all that I have gained from it along with some new guys to banter with.

Let's give Miles and Jeff a little slack, they had a great idea with this site and still do, I'm sure they will find a fix.

Since day 1 (for me) this site has been really slow, and doesn't even open at times. But, it is my 95% Vision website because back in the beginning, the other major Vision had their posts backwards. Drove me crazy. The newest reply was always listed first. I do believe that site has changed, but I am hooked here. Oh, and this was the 1st time I could get in today. Worth it (o:

Let me say I LOVE THIS WEB SITE BUT I JUST HATE SLOW. I'm 65 and its slower then me. I read the comments about the probable cost to host this web site and maybe they are not generating enough revenue from advertisers and maybe they should sell t-shirts, jacket, cap or other such items and I agree, as long as it's quality goods I would buy. I also read Vision-riders comments about supporting the site. OK Never let it be said that I'm some kind of cheap S.O.B. lowlife that isn't willing to pay his way. I just went to About Us and clicked on support Vision-Riders.com and you guessed it, it's down. I will however keeping watching and when it comes up I will be making a donation to the cause.
Any one else??????

I went to donate and got a 500 internal server error. Usually this is resoved by refreshing a few times if needed. I donated and became a member over at TheVMC and will gladly do it here too. Do I get a gold star or something?

Jeff and Miles, thank you for all that you do.

So the site was down for a couple of days, and it's a little slow. BFD. If this is somebody's biggest problem thay have my envy. 'cause I've got some way worse ones than that. There's a lot that's worthwhile here. Life is tough, helping out your buddy and having a little empathy make it a helluva' lot easier.

Thanks to all for your patience over the last couple days. It's been frustrating for Miles & I for sure since it had nothing to do with us and was beyond our control. I actually think the speed issue has been plaguing host for awhile and maybe this major failure has a silver lining so they must fix things. Of course, as of this post, they are still working on repairs so there may be delays. That being said, we do listen to you and have also been working to streamline some of the code and you should begin to see things speed up (host problems not withstanding). Sure, there's a dozen sites that talk about Victorys but you can be sure we will always try to give you a friendly community to get & promote good info on your bike. Honestly, I get a kick out of meeting you guys at events and hearing how you've enjoyed the site.

Hope to meet you soon,
Jeff

If your paying for the service and it goes down then and only then should you be allowed or entitled to voice your "2 cents". Until that time just enjoy the site and shut the $*(& up. I mean no disrepect to anyone in particular but as a general statement. If you fall into the category of complainers that expect everything and give nothing in return then my comments are directed at you. These comments are only my opinion and are only based on this thread. Stop by and I'll share a beverage and go riding with you all regardless of your position on this topic.

So if your thin skinned I appologize, otherwise be thankfull for all the work they do and accept there will be issues from time to time. This will not contribute to the end of mankind anytime soon.

Sorry I can't contribute at this time but I would like to thank you all on such a nice site. I do like the t-shirts I purchased though. Hopefully that money helps out a little.

i will give my 2cents about this site. i have belonged to soooo many forums related to the bike i have owned at that time. and i even belong to 3 victory vision related forums. And this one is by way the best forum i ever belonged too. and thats even with the problems and down time. other forums related to this bike is not just about the vision but all victorys, so there is a ton of info on them forums i could care less about. and on the vision side of them forums the info is on the weak side. alot less posting under the vision section. Any info i have gotten for my vision came from here! Plus the people on here seem alot cooler. i belonged to other forums (NON-Victory)where the moderators were a$$holes! and they would play favorites. But i feel thats just the class of people (kinda related to what they rode too lol !!) anyways my point is , for the people that have left... you dont know what you got until its gone.. they will be back.

Not that everyone or anyone has a ton of money but hosting is cheap. I have Video websites and per website cost me about $300 per year / per site. The program to have forums like this starts at "Free and goes a little up to specially custom forum sites. The problem with this site is the "SERVER/HOSTING COMPANY" is the one with the issues. To switch over to a new server is fairly easy and members would not even know it. Back up your files and upload them on a new server. This website stuff is not like mounting a zumo 550 on the vision....Just Kiddin about the zumo. Bluehost, Cirtex, etc...check them out.

I'm on another site most often and it got hit about 6-7 days ago. Its been down ever since and the projection is it will take some time to get it back up. I suppose if you are going to participate in these online forums you have to anticipate slow and broken at times.
I for one appreciate what Jeff and Miles do to keep folks like us in touch via this forum. So while I may not be a real frequent participant here, I do like to pop over and see what all the 08 owners are up to.
If I haven't said so before Jeff/Miles...... Thanks.

I get annoyed many times because you can click on a page and nothing will happen for a minute or two. Since I like reading the news I just click on news sites untill damn thing starts working again.

As for as they do a great job … well I guess.
It's not my website and I consider myself a customer. Therefore, I see no reason to grease the backside of someone I don't know. (Unless I can get brownie points which add up to chrome for my bike)

wow this thread really turned into some interesting reading. Again like I said above I really like it here and plan to stay and have enjoyed my time here since buying my vision. I do support this site by buying t-shirts, stickers and would gladly support it more in anyway i can wheather it's a donation button (which they have) or jackets, patches, etc.. Again I did not put any blame on Jeff or miles it was the host company i was talking about period. Again no need to blast me for just saying what i have read in other places and have experinced my self from time to time. I look forward in riding with each of you if I the offer or time or location ever presents itself..
