Kawasaki has just announced their new touring model and it appears to be a nice bike. The problem that I have with it, is that it is a clone. Had Victory stuck with these kind of styling queues, they would be just one of the clone options out there right now.
Instead we have a very unique motorcycle that not only looks great, it performs very well. I wish the 1700 K bike well, as I thank them for not copying the Vision.

Cloning is for SHEEP.

I looked one of these over last week at my local Kawi dealer. I disagree a bit about the HD clone theory.

While they do look similar to the Ultra. I think that there are enough differences between the two that the Kawi is not a "clone".

But then again.....lets see what the pictures say.....

Just curious....how did you look one over at the Kawasaki dealer last week? The new Voyager isn't scheduled to be introduced until summer 2009.

When the Vision came out LOTS of people complained it only came with a 1 year warranty. Kaw 1700 only has 1 year? Only the 6 cyl GW has longer that I have found.
I don't care for it. Of course I never liked copy cats but it tries to have smooth lines while still trying to look like an HD? Kind of like dressing up to go out and still wearing sandals...

NEWSFLASH.......
Japanese motorcycles have been imitating Harleys for quite some time now, if they weren't they would still all look like bicycles with 2,3,or4 cylinder inline engines like they did 20 years ago. The problem lies with the fact that Harley is still imitating Harley, It's time someone did something different-that's why I own a Vision, I don't like to be like everybody else!

Have not seen it in person, but I have to say I like it. Clone or not they have taken the look of the Ultra that has not changed for decades and refined it. I am on my 3rd Victory, 2000 C, 2002 TCD and my current 07 Hammer S, so yes I am a die hard Vic supporter. As much as I like the the feel of the Vision, I still can not get past the Visual looks. I was looking at a Street the other day that was sitting next to a Tour. Had a back rest and luggage rack, liked the looks a lot more! Still like the looks of a traditional style bike. maybe Vic has something in the works... We will see..

Looks like the Yamaha Roadstar, etc. I still prefer my Vision but of course we're all going to say that because we're on this website.

I think you are exactly right. Case in point: I was recently thumbing trough a magazine I found in my toolbox from 1988 that was previewing the '89 HD Road King (or maybe it was the E-glide...) and it looked pretty much identical to how it looks now. 20 years later and still looks the same.

Now, it honestly took a while for the Vision looks to grow on me. I'm a previous Vic owner, so was already sold on engine, trans, and engineering. Once I took a ride on a Vision I was in love. I didn't care what it looked like, I was getting one. But now I've come to appreciate the outside as much as I do the inside.

Anyway, even though I wasn't that in-love with the looks, I really did appreciate the fact that it looked unique. It didn't look like a Harley. It didn't look like a Goldwing. It looked like a Victory.

What will we do when the Vision becomes popular enough that'll they'll be everywhere? But until then... I'm just sayin'...

Certainly a nice bike but all it told us was the techy stuff in the article. What's it like 3 days on the road after 2,400 miles? Or is it a struttin' bar hopper?

Uh oh.......I oopsed

The bike I looked at was indeed NOT the new Kawi. It was a Yamaha Royal Star. I had to find a picture before I realized my mistake.

If I wanted a bike that looked like an Ultra I'd but the Ultra. At least you won't be upside on the loan before you get home with the HD.

Looks OK, but the fairing doesn't seem to flow into the design of the bike real well.

It looks like a Venture with a V-twin. Maybe that's a v-twin. I dunno. The Venture looks kinda like a V-twin until you see the cylinders are stacked side by side. Anyway, it looks okay to me. About as good as any of their cookie-cutter molds makes. There's still a lot of criticism about the Vision still floating out there. I hope it stays that way to a degree. Then I don't have to worry about parking my bike next to another like her. I've been on the road 2300mi now this trip and only passed by 1 other on the road. That's priceless!

Yeah, I know. In fact, that's what I was doing when I found the old mag. heh heh

We have a trip planned to the Tunnel of Trees with some friends in a few weeks. Probably about mid-October so all the leaves have a chance to change colors.

I think we need to post this 3 more times.

I hate when my enter button gets in the way. As for buying the ultra....I can't believe that folks that ride the 'batwing' bike actually have the nerve to call the Vision foreign looking.

On the way home from work I had another rider pull up next to me on the interstate (stop & go traffic) to see what I was riding. We rode and talked about the bike for about 2 miles. Of course the two of us were the center of attention from all of the surrounding cagers.

Ride safe!
