Hello,

I am looking at purchasing a new Cross Country with the following mods 21 inch G3 wheel, fuel tuner, mini apes, d&D pipes. With that said I am trading 2 M109's in on the victory maybe... I am also looking at a new street glide and i cant make up my mind as to what i want. I really like the power of my m109's and the fact that they are different. But, Im thinking about the street glide due to resale values. In your opinions why did you purchase the cross country and how has victory treated u?

thanks!

HD's great resale value is an urban legend. They have not been what they were for several years. That said you would need to order a SE110 to match the performance of a bone stock XC. Also the ergonomics and handling window of the Vic is far superior. The reliability of the Vic is very good, and JD powers has had them at #1 for like 9 years running

If you're really into that 'ain't changed a lick since 1958' look buy the Street glide, it'll look good parked next to your '58 BUICK ROADMASTER. If you'd rather NOT see yourself coming down the road 150 times in a mile, and would rather ride something that draws a crowd whenever you stop buy the XC

Well sir, you state that you like the power of the M109 and the fact that it is different. Those two things right there should steer you to the Victory and away from the Harley. Victory, like Suzuki, uses modern technology. Victory, like Suzuki, is very reliable. Victory, like Harley, is made in the USA.

Here is a dyno chart for a stock M109 as tested by Motorcyclist Magazine. And one for a slightly tweeked Victory Vision which has the same motor as the Cross Country.

My brother rides a slightly modified UClassic. one day while riding together we were getting on the freeway. the on ramp was short. I misjudged the speed of the oncoming cars and had to roll on the throttle. My brother waited for the cars and then got on the superslab. About a half hour later we were stopped at a light and he said 'boy that Victory has got some hp' I didn't tell him that it was all stock [at that time]. I just smiled.

They are pretty strong in stock form--good torque-- but don't quite make those HP numbers.

The totally 100% stock Victory has a restricted EPA tune and doesn't make the numbers over 4500 RPM that the chart I posted shows, and the stock ECU has a 5500 RPM rev-limiter. However, the power is hidden in the stock motor and just needs to be unleashed. That bike has just two bolt on parts, plus a fuel controller, and a reprogrammed ECU (6400 RPM limit) and is running a stock exhaust. About three hours worth of wrenching--no internal motor work, and you don't even lose a drop of oil in the process.

My 2011 Victory Vision Tour will out accelerate and out corner by a significant margin every Harley in the Midland, Bay City, Saginaw MI ex-HOG chapter; now called JABOB. They grew to hate the local Harley dealer.

Now my BMW R1200 GS makes my Victory Vision look like it is tied to a tree (130 bhp 525 pounds).

I wouldn't say he is a fake. He is, however, comparing apples to oranges in motorcycles when he compares the BMW to any type of cruiser or luxury touring barge. I'm sure the 525 pound BMW will win the drag race against the 900 pound Vision. The bike with the best power-to-weight ratio will always be the quickest. Also, BMW advertises 125 BHP at the crank for the new 2013 model. That equals about 109 at the wheel. The 2011 and earlier versions put about 96 HP to the wheel (at 7700 RPM).

Looked at from the other direction, the 110 RWHP Victory is making about 125 crankshaft HP at a much lower RPM. Of course, it has to haul 900 pounds.

I couldn't handle the riding position the BMW forced me into for long rides. It maybe fine for you, but I'll take floorboards over pegs anyday.
Anyway, I'm all for recycling my money and buying USA, so BMW & GW weren't on the list anyway.
Just make sure you try a Vision too.

2013 R1200GS with Remus exhaust and Remus FI map is 130 bhp; just delivered. My previous 2004 R1150RT also was Remus equipped.

I love my 2011 Victory Vision Tour and most of the BMW's I've owned since my first R70 /5 in 1974, but the one bike I wish I still had was my 1970 Triumph Bonneville.

The Vision Tour is the most comfortable and has the best wind and weather protection of any motorcycle I have ever ridden.

My first motorbike was a 3rd hand Vespa in 1955.

Good looking Vision Jim. All bikes are good, and you obviously enjoy performance. You've been around long enough to know what makes a good luxury touring bike. Are you going to ride it to the American Victory Rally in Spirit Lake, IA this year?

What mods? Mine's still stock aside from S1L1, and I'd sure as heck like to go the route you did.

That bike is running the stock exhaust, Lloydz VM1 cams, Lloydz top filter, Lloydz VFCIII, and has Lloydz reprogram in the stock ECU. That's it. That graph is from Lloydz website.

Mine is a duplicate, but I've not had it on a dyno or ever had it dyno tuned. It runs 12.60s @ 105 MPH in the quarter mile (1100 pound race weight) and tops out over 130 MPH, which is good enough to put GL1800s in my rear view whenever I feel like it. The Goldwing that was in the other lane that day could only muster 13.05 @ 100 MPH. He is a darn good racer and has a 9.90 class Suzuki--point being--the Vision is a little faster and quicker than a GL1800. It had been 20 years since I had been on a drag strip and my 60 foot times sucked. I'm pretty sure the bike will run quicker with some practice on my part, but the trip to the track was to shut up my GW buddies about how the Vision couldn't possibly outrun a Goldwing in a "real race" with a "real racer"--which it did.

The race (and a bet) came about when I told the GW guys that my Vision could run in the 12s, which they all found hard to believe. I was sure it would because I knew that the Goldwing and the rider (owner) that was on it has run 12.70s with that bike before when track conditions were more favorable, and we had played on the street. What he didn't know was that I wasn't pulling him as bad as I could have when we played.

Even he agreed afterwards that my bike could probably pull 12.40s in the right conditions.

I've owned the Hog and currently ride the CrossRoads. The fit & finish is an equal. The ride, handling, & power delivery is better on the XR, and I don't see the same bike 50 times a day. You'll like the distinction.
The only downside I've found is the availablity of aftermarket parts & accessories.

I was able to ride it home and i was ery pleased with the handling of the bike and I love the stereo. It dosent quiet have the power I am use to but I am still breaking it in and it also hasnt got the pipes or tuner on yet. Thanks for All your help, and by the way JohnnyVision, Im not a "troll" was just looking for some good information..

Congratulations on the new bike. We need pictures!!

If you are looking for more power, the pipes are absolutely the LAST place you should spend your money. The stock pipes flow very well and aftermarket pipes struggle just to equal the smooth torque curve of the stock pipes.

Look to Lloydz Motorworkz for performance parts that actually work. He has developed parts for the Victory that work and compliment each other. http://www.lloydz.com/ For a 30% increase in power, get Lloydz VM1 cams, Lloydz intake, and a fuel tuner. I would recommend the Lloydz VFCIII or the Power Commander V.

You can change the exhaust for a different sound, but do not expect any power increase from it. If you are just looking for more power, changing the stock exhaust is a waste of money, and may actually lose you some power and cause driveability issues.
