I did a quick search, and didn't find anything that seemed like this issue, so, if I have missed something, let me have it!!!

I finished a 1200+ mile, four day ride, and on the way home with my group, when we stopped for fuel I first noticed this.

As I would walk the bike up to the pump, or away from the pump, with the engine off, I would hear the slightest pop, and feel it at the same time. Nothing loud enough for bystanders to take notice, but on the bike, it was something I did. No issues at speeds up to 80mph, and would like to prevent any future issues.

I got home late last night, so I did not get any time to look into this.

At this time, it seems to happen at the same point in rotation of the front wheel, but, have not proven this yet.

Could this be just a brake rub? Or is it probably a front wheel bearing starting to go bad?

Any help would be appreciated!

First of all, why would you ride it when it concerns you? Second of all, no one here has a crystal ball. Please put it up on a lift and have someone who knows what to look for check it out.

go to the front fender and wiggle the back portion I would guess that it has cracked. I heard the same thing and it was that the left side of the fender was cracked at the bolt hole. (but I could be wrong.)

vacantankerousryder - Have you gone off your meds, you seem to be getting a little more testy than usual.

daveinmaryland - remember varyder is looking out for your safety and he has good points, but hasn't had his coffee yet.
The rotors could be loose or warped.
The bearing could be wearing out not likely, it would be notchy all the way around most likely.
Could be the belt on the pulley. Mine makes some noise in the same spot occassionally.

Maybe something simple, maybe not. But riding at 80 mph is a heck of a way to find what is really wrong. Or asking folks to guess with your life. Two cups of coffee already, but this post did not make my day. Gee, what was that...?

You should have some Vicsters close by or you could take it to White Plains to have it checked out if you're not sure what to look for.

If I sound sharp, should I apologize?  I have a friend who went down when his bike lost a front wheel bearing at 60 mph on the interstate, spent 6 months in rehap and has a back that looks like an orange peel, but would have been worse without his leathers.  Oh, and just recently, didn't someone post about the last thing they remember they were in a turn and then felt a wobble...and was told later they went head on into a car.  We have enough against, I don't need to help things along...

You can hear it? And you can feel it?
What the hell are you trying to say?

Thanks for the valued input, it has been a very busy week at work, and have yet to touch the bike.

The bike is a 2008 VV Tour.

I hope to get some time this weekend to work on the bike.

Again, thanks for the input.

Start simple, first see if you can get it to repeat. If you can, have someone mark what part of the tire is down when it makes the noise, you then have a place to begin inspecting.
If you can't it was probably a pebble that stayed in the tread, and left again before you even got to 20mph.
Check for any play in your wheel bearings. Also verify that your rotor doesn't have any knicks or gouges that could be vibrating the caliper.
BTW how many miles does your bike have on it?
How old is your front tire?
There's a lot of important pieces in the front end of our motorcycles, and while they may be simple our lives depend on them functioning properly. If the answer doesn't present itself readily, have a pro take a look at it. I don't want to read about another rider going down for a long time.

I finally got a bit of time to start some troubleshooting. The bike does it just rolling forward in the garage, so, being alone, I put it on the lift, and turned the front wheel slowly, listening, feeling, looking.

The front wheel right side disk is warped, you can slowly turn the wheel, and for the most part, no noise, no nothing, then, you can hear disk drag, and then, you can hear (and eventually, once I got my fingers in place) feel the right side caliper slowly deflect to the left, then the caliper suddenly move to the right. Continuing, you can do the same, and observe it. I need to get a run out gage and see how bad it is, and then probably replace both disks.

BTW, the bike is new to me last December, has 22k miles on it, brand new tire, and according to the dealer, the brakes were done before I looked at it.

I will be reviewing the shop manual, and getting some mic readings when I replace the disks.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

Anyone got a source for brake parts that they can recommend.

Something to think about, the rotors as floating rotors, the rivets that hold the inner part of the rotor to the outside of the rotor should spin, or move. Dirt or break dust can build up in the rivet and not let the rotor float. Try moving the rivets around, if they are stuck, use your brand of cleaner, soak the rivets, then cover the rotor with a towel and tap the rivets with a rubber hammer, of course it would be best with the rotor taken off the wheel, but you could get it done while it is still attached to the wheel, remember a firm tap, you do not Jabber beat it with all you can give it. I would try that before looking for new rotors.

jb.hatch-

What type of cleaner would your suggest? A brake cleaner?

I did got out and just turned a few of the rivets, they do turn, but, I would do the cleaning part first, before tackling the rotor replacement.

Thanks jb.

I would use WD 40 or PB blaster, break cleaner might take the paint off the rotors, I am not an expert but that's what I would try.

There was a guy that tuck a bolt looked like a 1/4x20 and put washer on the size of the floater button and slide the bolt threw the hole and then slid a washer on the bolt and then a nut and tightened the bolt that re crushed the rotter button.
If you do a search you can find rotter floater buttons. Drill out a button measure it and look for them do all of them on the rotter not just one.

Its my understanding is you want the rivets loose, so that the rotor floats, I learned that when I thought I had bad rotors on my TC, I did what I was told, , free up the rivets by soaking them with a cleaner, and giving them a tap to get the crud loose. I Worked on my TC.

How did you fix it? Rotor buttons or new roter?
