So im on my 90 mile trek to work, stop at a gas station on my vision to fill up. While doing so, i noticed a old salty looking fella with grey beard and hair, pulling up on an old kawasaki. He pulls to the next pump and starts gassing up. I open my trunk to check my phone when he says Where was that ugly japanese bike called? I said, its not japanese but American made Victory Vision. He says Bull shit, you young yuppies and your dam foreign bikes are ruining our society. Now with a confused look I said, Arent you riding a Kawasaki? he said yea so.. I said well sir, they are not made in America. He says , yes they are , in california. I smiled and said well you need to check your fact, my bike is made in spirit lake IOWA which is located in the United States, and its ok if you dont like it because your not making the payments. Trying to be nice, and he says well you can take your payments and shove em up your japanese ass.. So while im getting on my bike I simply stated ..

Sometimes its better to be thought of a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

He said...... WHAT?

I said , EXACTLY! and finished my ride to work...

I love that he was on a KAW and was calling that American... on a side note what i get a kick out of is, the DIE HARD harley people who preach the buy American thing as their wives pull up in a New Toyota, Honda , hyundia!! lol When i had a kaw i used to get grief about it at a local biker hangout. then the Wives of the HD people would show up in their cars and i would look and say REALLY?!! are you F'ing kidding me... I own foreign cars. but im also NOT screaming buy American. =)

Milwaukee 'me too' riders get all warped when you tell them that their 'SHOWA' front forks are made by a division of HONDA, and follow that up by pointing out that the factory BRIDGESTONES are also Japanese, as are the FIRESTONES on their pickup truck.

Good question crash! Just amazes me how when they don't like something they trash it. Does it really matter what people ride or buy? Nope I think not...

I betcha....If we did a poll on this site, most would be blown away, if they were honest, as to how many Victory riders...Drive Japanese and Korean cars, including their wivies, kids, and other family members......I do not, as I am a Ford retiree, and am loyal to Ford, and I like their products..A couple of my kids who live in California drive Jap cars cause it is a status symbol BS out West and one is not noticed driving domestic products!!!! I am fully aware of the fact that most vehicles are now world-wide products and I will roll with the flow,,,But I will continue to drive Fords until I leave this planet and ride my Vision with pride.......JMHO

What I think is ironic is that now a days you have to buy a "foreign" car to buy American. I.E. The Chrysler we had was made in Mexico. The Honda we traded it for was built in Alabama.

There is so much more to a vehicle then where the final assembly is completed. This is where most Americans fail to see the big picture.

On average the GM alone employee three times the American as direct employees and nine times the Americans as indirect employees, when compared to all of the import makers manufacturing in the US combined.

There is also a thing call "domestic index." The fleet average domestic indexes for the big three is higher than all of the import makers. Honda is the only foreign company that even comes close the average domestic index of the domestics, trailing behind Chrysler by about 10%. Chrysler having the lowest average domestic index which is about 70%, GM has a fleet average domestic index in the mid 80s and Ford in somewhere in between.

So why to the domestic employee so many more people than the import makers? Simple, the design, engineering, and administration is done in the US, plus that mexico assembled Chrysler has a higher domestic index than that Alabama assembled Honda. Even though all auto makers are global companies, when you buy a domestic, more money stays with in the US economy as opposed to supporting the foreign company's respective economy.

It just blows my mind how short sided Americans are in general with this subject. The Domestic Auto industry employees nearly nine million direct employees, which is more than three times the employees directly employed by all the import manufacturers combined.

Buying American is still critical to the well being of our country, you can't buy everything American made but you can still support as many American jobs by American companies as possible with a little bit or research and education.

Its still better to buy that mexico assembled Chrysler than it is to buy that Texas assembled Tundra. The Chrysler supports an order of magnitude more American jobs despite the fact that final assembly is in Mexico.

I agree with your comment Kevin on how short sided the America people are on any subject. It seems they will stand for anything, even if they know nothing about it because that is the way the wind is blowing at the moment.

amen! I couldn't have said it better, actually, I couldn't have said it as well. It's a personal conviction for me, I like to support my local, state, and national economy. I buy American when ever I can. Every vehicle I own is American. That's just how I roll.
Job market is struggling. It's my duty to buy American when I'm aware of it and there is an American product to choose from. That's just me, I'm not imposing my convictions on anyone else.
