Just got home from work...I'm inside my house. Vision resting on the street. Unfortunately I don't have a garage. Some kid reversed his car right into my bike and damage both left and right front fairing. The left light is almost completely off. The bike was completely on her side beyond the tip over covers. The kid said he thought he was in drive. I'm glad I didn't meet this kid on the highway or open ride while on my bike. There is always the bright side to look at these things. I was at Americade that past two days so I'm glad it happen after Americade.

I never had to do an insurance claim with a motorcycle. What do I need to pay attention when the insurance adjuster comes. Any suggestion/tips someone has to offer. I want to make sure everything gets back to normal. The bike starts. The speakers sound like shit now. So something is wrong with them too.

Safe riding and I guess parking too.

Police report, talk smart to insurance company (state the facts only, don't agree or insinuate partial blame, ie:"i did park it a little further from the curb than usual" or something similar to that), and get a repair estimate from a dealer of your choice. They will recommend one of their "preferred" shops and guarantee all repairs from it, but you can bring it to someone else if you prefer their work instead. And if you own it outright (no lien), obviously you can pick wha you want to fix and pocket the rest if you want.

Alexi

Ps - glad the kid stayed around.

Go over ever inch of the bike look for any paint chip on both side of the bike. Check all switches to see if they work. Get wheels off ground look at belt and pulley check all you lights check seat for tears. Look at motor for cracked fins or wedges look at calipers for scratches. Take nothing for granted and make a list of all that you find wrong.
The insurance guy has never seen your bike or I'll bet a vision so look close. Check street for damage just in case the city says something.
Now when you have a list go to the dealer that charges the most and get prices. Now hes going to try and low ball you stand up straight and always make eye contact most people don't like that. Don't take less then what you want and if you need get your company to help but be where they might jack your payment up. If you take a check and need painting wait till paint is done before taking check.

I've been through a similar situation years ago when my '98 Goldwing SE was hit in a parking lot, the best bet would be to take the bike to your dealer and let them go over every inch as usually an adjuster will trust the word of service professionals over yours, just give the dealer's service people a heads up on what you expect of them.

I'm going to cry myself to sleep tonight. Hope all will turn out well...

Same thing happened to me about 30 years ago with my Honda CB750 Custom. It was "totalled", I got a check and the bike and rode it for another 2 years.  We got hit riding the Vision about two years ago.  The car rolled into us at a stop sign and he pushed us about 3 foot.  His insurance contacted a dealer to get the price of the pieces to replace on the the left side.  Got a check, and I'm still haven't replaced anything, you can't look and see that anything was done with it.  You should be okay...

Well if the light is out on the side and damage in that area, there is a piece that goes all the way across the front and could be broken(yes) that holds everything and cant be seen until you disassemble. The post is on here which is how i know. and is broken

Wow....it hit it so hard that all the chrome pieces turned to stock pieces. Very glad you're okay and be super thankful that atleast the kid has insurance. We got hit in our toyota, their fault but no insurance. On a side note how frickin hard is it to lift when all the way down?

I just had the same thing happen to me this winter in Mesa, AZ except it wasn't a kid, it was an old lady that had a few too many toddys. She was nice about it and contacted her insurance company for me. All I had to do was get one repair estimate, fax it in and I had a check in just a few days. I took it to the local Vic dealer in Mesa for the esitmate, showed them what I thought was damaged, they checked it over and found more stuff than I did. The bill was rather large and I was surprised they paid up without trying to negotiate with me.

I still haven't repaired mine, would have in Mesa but they couldn't get the parts in before I was to head back to Montana. Now I am about 300 miles from the closest dealer so it will have to wait a little longer for repairs.

Oh, and goat, maybe it was the heat of the moment but I picked my baby up like it was a bicycle. Thought about it afterwards and wondered how I did that..

I just had a friend go through this. The big thing to remember is that the Vision is a rare bike. Just not that many of them on the road in comparison to other bikes. The insurance adjusters dont have alot to go on as to the value of repairs, and damages. The dealer on the other hand can put dollar amounts on every piece. You know those specialty pieces like fastener and such. In my friends case the difference between the other insurance companies estimate and the dealers cost to fix was well over 8 thousand dollars. Get your dealer to give you a cost breakdown that includes labor and you should come out ahead....

To chime in again on this and to confirm what mike said.  The insurance adjuster of the guy driving came to my work, looked at the bike, made notes and then call the Victory dealer.  The first dealer they called was my dealer who insisted I bring the bike in for inspection so they could determine the cost, which would have been labor, not covered by the insurance.  The adjuster said, "forget that" and called another Victory dealer that she explained the circumstances.  They gave her a list of parts and cost of the parts, and the labor to replace those items.  Basically it was the left bag door, the bag itself and the mounting hardware.  She added all that up, asked me if I needed a rental motorcycle, or just send a check and let me take care of.  I took the check that I received a week later. Done.

Important to have the bike looked at by professionals at the dealer. years ago my sister was rear ended in her car at a stop sign. the car that hit her was going so slow the air bags did not even deploy. when she looked at the rear bumper with the person who hit her, there were some scratches from the front bumper hitting the rear bumper. I told her take it to the dealer to be sure. Well the dealer found $1,000 worth of damage.

I need to stop coming back to this post. Everytime I see the picture of the Vision on its side I pass-out. I'm glad the screen saver is on when I come too.... It's been a rough couple of days...

It took two people to lift this up. I had the bike on the tip overs and could lift that back up myself. Not like this though. The kid has State Farm....so I hope it's quick. Thanks everyone for the advice, sorrow and funny comments!!

I have had 2 insurance claims. I had the insurance adjuster look at it at the dealer. A good sevice department can push the estimate in the right direction and avoid supplimental claims after it's apart.

If your going to have a dealer do the work then they get the check "not you" no profit for you.
If they total it and you want to buy it back see if your state will issue a new title when bike is legal.
The reason being a guy at the legion bought his totaled car back and one night sitting at a stop light a cop was behind him with nothing to do ran his plate. Came up selvage title cop pulled him over and after two hours let him go. He only had one drink lucky him.
Clam the flowers the bike fell on don't give the insurance company a break they don't give you one when its payment time.

That sucks, man. I wish someone would total my Nomad (without me on it, of course). It would be easier to file an insurance claim than to sell it. Maybe a tornado will sweep it up. Or aliens. I just want a Vision.

That's a bad day . Take your bike to someone that knows the vision . I am in the process of having mine repaired . Even though it may not look like much damage on the outside like mine but the internal's are cracked in several places . Also check the front fender for cracks it doesn't seem to take much to mess it up . Good Luck on your repair's
