Using this link I got the sound I have wanted from my VV.

http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=7527&pos...

I had stock exhaust, map and breather. I have no additional heat, popping or stalling issues. This was a great mod for me. I like cheap (less than $100) and I feel my stock VV is fast enough for me.

I think I would have liked a slide on resonator tip better than the 3 screw clamp on style I bought. I was able to get one of the hose clamps that holds the heat deflector on around each of the tip clamp bolts so they won't fall off. Not being familiar with these, I wonder if they are tight enough to stay in place........

Anyhow, I'm another happy modder.

Bill

A great mod for DIY'ers, and the price really can't be beat. Been enjoying mine since last year.

I mentioned to a Vic mechanic I was going to do this mod and he recommended the remap and adding either lloyds or ness top air filter. His thinking is this mod will lean out the engine.

Well I drove up to Pell Lake, WI, it was a combination stop and go, highway (65-70mph) and then through a suburb..... I swear even with the 90 degree temps I felt less heat on my right leg. I drove a total that day of about 50 miles and everything was perfect. As far as the remap, I asked a dealer that does his own stock modifications like Nascar6 and I think either witch doc or cycleops and he told me no need to remap. On the thread I used as a ref to do this mod a lot of guys also went without the remap. Some say you need it. I took a chance and so far so good. After a few more miles I guess time will tell. Anything besides more heat that I should look for??

Like I said so far it runs great. No stalling, backfire or extra heat, just a cool throaty sound that is not too obnoxiously loud.

'if' the engine is running lean due to this mod I don't think the damage would show up until much later down the road.

?

?Those with more knowledge of how motors work can provide more info about a lean running motor than I can.

?

?I plan to take the conservative route and get the remap and better air intake done on my bike when I do this mod.?

'if' the engine does run lean I don't think the damage would show up until many many miles down the road. others who know more about how engines operate can provide more knowledge than I can. I am going to take the conservative route and get remapped and a better air intake setup.

Our bikes ECU is designed so if were running down in keys in Florida or up in the Rocky's the bike will run just fine. Other words some places we get thin air and in others we

get thick air.

So if we change exhaust the ECU will adjust for it cause the 02 sensors are supplying information.

What you have to do is remember what your gas mileage was. Now keep track of your mileage with the new pipes. If it jumps up

by more then 7 or 10 miles per gallon then yes it might be running lean. Look at your spark plugs or even put in new one and see what color they are.

If you do new plugs give them a 100 miles to turn colors same with old plugs. If you still think its lean unhook the 02's.

A new chip adds fuel and will slightly change your RPM. Not enough for the $2 to 3 hundred bucks you'll pay.

I did the thrush mod along with the twin sucker air filter and big shot fuel tuner. I can't really reason with the fact that we've all paid a fairly hefty price on the bike but now you want to save a couple hundred dollars? If you're going to spend several thousand dollars I'd suggest throwing in the extra insurance of a fuel tuner or a remapping. On a side note the only thing I can tell you to check is your muffler clamps. I had to circle mine around and tighten them each time before it stopped leaking exhaust around the joints.

If you need assurance (hey, I did....didnt want to burn a valve up because I was cheap) go find a bike dyno. Around here they will put your bike on the machine and do 4 pulls and give you a print out of HP/TQ.....but also you will get your air/fuel curve. THAT is what your concerned about....and it will be there in all its glory easy to read. Cost around $30 here....YMMV.

I hear my radio just fine.

Checked the plugs and they look good. I have about 300 miles on it now.

If you think your lean start checking your millage. I have S1's top air filter and stock front filter. I get around 45mpg if I stay under 65mph and over 70 mph I drop to 41 mpg
So keep track for a few tanks and see what you get.

has anyone fitted the 6 shooter tips to the Thrush mufflers? I'm also considering the Atom Bomb route as well...

Hi Folks,

I just completed this exhaust modification on my 08 Vision. I did all the previous things that were postd by other VIsion owners. I bought the Thrush mufflers at Advanced auto parts and purchased a couple of slash cut resonator tips. The only thing I would have done different is to go with a 33" set of thrush mufflers.

I decided to set the install up like the original pipes which did take a little extra work. I will try to post a few pictures of the modification which did include welding a couple of flanges over the thrush to compensate for the thinner diameter to hold the heat shield. New hangers were welded onto the thrush so I could use the mounting points that were on the original pipes. The only difference I have is my tips run 7/8" short of the end of the bike and there are no issues as I just rode for 2 hours in 28 degree weather with snow coming down here in New England.

All I can say is that Im happy as a pig in a mud pit. The sound was outstanding and I might be mistaken but, I do believe I did pick up some horse power. My buddy said he could here me from a 1/4 mile away heading to his house.

Thanks for all the prior posting

I just took off the Thrush Muffler Mod on mind, Had no poping, looked good, sounded good. I had a stage 1 orginally and the thrush mod was alot better. but. I wanted to sound very serious, I finally got the sound that I was looking for with a muffler rebuild.

I think you'll be fine. Mostly use your best judgement. The heat shields will be held on by worm gear clamps. I chose to weld some 90degree brackets onto my pipes and use the stock mounting holes to bolt them up. Without doing SOMETHING to secure the pipes they will move around.(wiggle up and down, back and forth while riding) Also you'll need to weld on your tips or get the kind that will clamp down onto your pipe.

If your going to do the Thrush mufflers do this before sliding mufflers on take hack saw and add another cut to each side of the muffler. Now clamp will tighten down better.
If you concerned about being lean check your gas mileage before and after. If your millage jumps by two or more miles per gallon then yes your lean. You can unhook your 02's and now that will put it into a richer mode.
Having your ECM reflashed changes your rpm curve and adds some fuel but not a lot. This coast money unplugging 02s is free.
If your bike pops up shifting its cause we have a horse shit ECM and air valve if your bike pops down shifting that is lean.
