Has anyone tried using an oil cooler on the Vision? If so has it improved the engine temp much and what oil cooler did you use>

Curious question Earle, why do you ask? In deed the Vision has an oil cooler. If you feel the engine is hot on your legs, there are lower deflectors you can install on your bike, plenty of threads on the topic. In what I have read and talked with others about on the Vic motors, you'll never have to worry with the engine overheating like with other V-Twins. The heads are cooled by oil circulating through passages making it one of the best engines on the market.

Yup Backjack, Really! Just look down on the lower shifter side and you'll see a radiator thingy in front of the motor. That's the oil cooler.

I was curious if the Vic needed a larger aftermarket cooler as well. It seems the consensus on that is no? My buddy just installed one on his HD and it works real nice..

No other oil cooler is needed. The factory oil cooler does the job no matter how high the ambient air tempature gets.

I brought up putting a larger oil cooler on the bike a year ago or so and got shot down. I cant remember the reasoning, but KevinX said it wouldn't help. And he knows way more bout these rides than I do.

The early Victorys had a huge oil cooler that looked like a radiator. It was actually too big and cooled the oil too much. Victory went with a smaller cooler with the newer models. I believe the Victory engine uses a dual-vane oil pump with one vane providing pressure to the areas needing lubrication and the other vane circulating crankcase oil through the oil cooler and heads. It is a liquid cooled (oil) and air cooled engine by design. The oil cooler is not an afterthought like adding an oil cooler to an air-cooled engine would be.

Arlen Ness sells a Desert Package that has two oil coolers that attach to your factory oil cooler so you can double your oil capacity to cool down your oil and reduce the HOT temps on your legs and extend your motors life. Contact him in Vegas shop. I get mine installed in two weeks.

Sounds nice for South Texas. I could always make a cover for the second oil cooler in the winter. For that matter I could make one for the current oil cooler since the engine never comes up to temp when it is below 40.

For any part of Texas except the panhandle.  It's going to be 99 in Dallas this week.

Would doubling the oil volume, double (extend) the changing frequency?

wait a sec... im confused and i am sorry for asking silly questions... BUT i have too! LOL

if you double the oil cap for this oil cooler #2 where in the Hell would all the oil GO when the bike is NOT in use? doesnt it drain back into the bottom of the engine? i imagine some will stay up top (little amount) ??? If all that oil is in the crankcase and you start up the first time could that cause a issue? when vic 1999-01 had the Giant oil coolers i think they only ran 6qts. i couldnt imagine 9qts in the crankcase just sitting there..

That sux Willy. Getting shot down on a forum should be isolated to oil brands and car tire threads only! ha

I seem to remember something about the cooling is so efficient on our motors that the size of the cooler was actually reduced so short trips on the bike at least allowed the engine to come up to respectable temps?

actually they told me that it will have 8 qts of oil so it isn't quite doubled. I will post more when I get the bike back a week from this Friday. I am wondering if there will be a thermostat in the oil line to open and close the additional oil at a certain temperature. Who knows but will find out soon. This last Saturday the Bank in Safford said 117F but my bike was saying 107. It was hot!!!! Any help in cooling the engine will be welcome.

A couple of years ago while riding over to Hoover Dam, the temperature was 114 degrees and I just happened to look down at my temperature dipstick and it was reading 230 degrees. It probably wouldn't have been that high if it weren't for the fact we were crawling behind traffic to get down to the dam. I'm not sure at what temp our oil goes bad but I'm pretty sure 230 wasn't good for it.
