Because they are far better than the old cigerette lighter invention, but folks are reluctant to change and build more things that use that type than the other.  BMW uses them and have for years so things are available for them if you order from the U. K.  Victory was forward thinking, but not many others are...

Hi, there are plenty of adapters out there so you can use items you already have.

Powerlets are by far much better connectivity and overall construction than the flimsy low quality cheap cigarette lighter plugs found in cars and such...Powerlet makes probably 1000's of adapters as well as stand behind their products...Had an issue with a 12 V cord called them and they walked me through several steps of troubleshooting...Had the thing fixed i about 5 minutes... It was just a loose screw and no not ht eperson behind the screwdriver either.

Thanks for the replies. Where's the best place to get an adapter? Cheapest? Just bought a very small airpump from slime (about the size of a small book 4x5) but of course it has the reg plug on the end.

Interesting, my 2011 Silver Vision came with ordinary cigarette fitting. I had already ordered a powerlet adaptor for my accessories. Sent it back, it surprised the dealer.

I believe that Victory went with the CHEAP NO GOOD cigarette lighter type plugs on the 2010 models...might be the 2011 but they changed to the cheaper ones...Had to save 50 cents on every Vision I guess!

Makes sense as they also removed the side bag dampers as well to cut cost.

I have a different view, 1st I like having the cig power outlet on my 11. Everything I need to plug in comes with the cig version. I dont need to order accessories like I would with the power-outlets. The cig outlet is not a cheap change over so get over it that Vic is saving money by going this route its just better marketing. 2nd I waited for the 11's to come out and one reason why the removal of the side cover hydraulic piston arm, when I open a side over I like it to open now not have to waive 3 seconds. Just my opinion.

Riverdawg....Sorry but they (Mother Vic) did ALL these changes not for convenience and better marketing....They did it for SAVINGS!! A cheap 12 cigarette lighter plug (probably made in China)is probably 50 cents. Where as a Powerlet quality made (in the USA) outlet probably cost them $2...Then the pistons on the side bags cost $10 each...There is significant savings by doing away with quality and replacing it with cheap stuff....Even if it is only on a 100 motorcycles they save a bunch of money....Then figure in th etip overs they removed, the polished wheels and etc, and etc....

So, what you're all saying, contrary to popular wisdom, is that the earlier the Vision, the better the Vision? Usually it's the other way around.

Making the 2011 cheaper? But awhile adding a.b.s., much improved seat (quality -over 2008) much better radio and speakers, trany, better charging system, colored controls and wheels instead of the color of cast aluminium. I know on my 2011 my side bag doors open Wider without the shock than my 2008 did with the shock..

The powerlet may be better than the old style car lighter adapter (and I don't buy into the pipedream that a nazi BUICK, a BMW, is a measurably better car) , but in order to use my as supplied by the phone manufacturer, car charger I still had to go buy another adapter like the one shown above adding to the clutter in the already teeny glove box area. To me, powerlets are as useful as a crate of left handed light bulbs.

OH yeah, and they are certifiable pain in the A$$ to remove from the hole it's buried in in the botom of the glove box

I like the powerlet outlet, it's just too bad that nothing I have came with a powerlet plug. So I bought an adapter.

Yeah, I don't think there's any argument that the powerlet system is the better system.

I don't think there's any argument that the metric system is a better system either.

So........now what?

Whats the other end of a powerlet? The side you plug in your device? What type of plug is that? Is it the same as the 2011 vision a cigarette port?

The the unfortunate thing about powerlet is that there are not many devices sold in the U.S. with the plug for it already. many devices are the plug itself like phone chargers. I don't know exactly why Victory went the powerlet way to start with and then switch back, but they did it, so we live with it. I'd like to see everything go USB, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
